He’s had a lot of muscular injuries in a less demanding league. He’ll struggle with the intensity and pace of the EPL = more injuries.

Could also be Jose’s lack of attention to detail to fitness and recovery … ;)

Aside from his two ACL ruptures a lot of those injuries are really small niggles keeping him out for about 1 game max, sure you could be right and he could struggle with the intensity of the PL and he could end up injured a lot, or he might become more robust under Conte’s fitness and training, he’s still pretty young only 23 so I think he will still also be learning about how best to manage his body. FP & AC will know best one much of a risk it is or isn’t as will the doctors and physios etc at the club.

Lets see how it pans out bro.

Yep only missed 4 games in Serie A all season with injury, each time a single game for a minor issue. He’s not injury prone he’s just had a twin ACL rupture in the past so has been our for a long time with that but nothing based on last season to say he’s particularly injury prone, it’s more a question of can he find more consistency and can he find his pre ACL form, if so he’d be a phenomenal signing.
Totally agreed with this, it’s not that he’s made of glass (Lamela actually is made of glass, picks up random knocks every month), it’s that he didn’t play anywhere near as well as he did pre-ACL tear.

And of course the chance of major injury is higher post ACL tear but in 2022 that’s nowhere near as concerning as it was even 10 years ago. With modern surgery an ACL is no longer a career-defining injury.

No, the issue is that he didn’t play very well last year and that he’s missed basically 1.5 years of mental development. That’s what people should worry about, not the injury.

He played 42 games last year and contributed 17 goals / assists. I was expecting fewer games given the commentary on here
9 of these contributions came against very poor opposition in the Conference League (The likes of FK Bodø Glimt, Zorya Lugansk, Trabzonspor).

I've noticed in his YT clips that they cut off midway after he's done a skill meaning he either loses it or it doesn't go anywhere...

If only we were able to directly compare the effect of the two different styles that the relevant managers employ on one group of players

Know nothing about him but looking at that injury history I would say he is mentally strong.
He was out for 6 months in the second half of the 19/20 season with an ACL injury. Came back for the start of the 20/21 season only to suffer another ACL , to the other knee I believe, a few weeks in and was out for the whole season. Despite those serious injuries and the mental and emotional impact they would have had on him he came back last season and played 42 times in all competitions only missing the odd game with minor knocks like muscle fatigue, which is understandable given the amount of time he was out with the ACL injuries.
Whilst his goal involvement stats are not great (8 goals and 9 assists) they’re still nearly 1 in 2 and given his time out of the game they're pretty respectable. Whatever physical effect those ACL injuries had on his body they didn’t seem to affect him mentally which is something I’m sure AC has noticed.

Before I commit to catching up on multiple pages of (no doubt, very well thought-out, completely rational) arguments, could someone tell me if this is this season's "Deki Kulusevski is too slow for the Premier League" debate?

If it does happen, I hope it happens quickly. Would like Zaniolo to get maximal benefit from a Conte pre-season.

Not sure about this bloke's fitness, maybe a loan with an option to see how he goes. If he goes OK, then sure.

We don't want another situation with a player becoming useless and we get stuck with him.

Looks utter pony, complete waste of a non homegrown. Maybe stop looking in Italy ffs. Literally looks to have no appealing abilities as far as watching every video on line.

Pellegrini and Tammy did just fine this year under Jose’s awful anti football. Moura and Bergwijn, auxillary wing forwards, are in fact no better under Conte than Mou so is that really a comparison you want to make?

Zaniolo has not had a good season (for some reasons out of his control, and some under his control). We can see his obvious talent and potential and view this move with optimism, and there is fair reason for it… but the outright denial of the material productivity of his play is just bizarre. Why can’t we talk about what happened in reality?

I think Zaniolo would be a huge gamble with both ACL's torn before he is even 20, that shows a weakness there. If cheap enough then it's not so risky. Madisson is my preferred choice, he makes himself time and space with the ball. That is a talent only the very best have.

Zaniolo wouldn’t be my choice, I think it’d be a tough adjustment for him when he is still raw but to say he has no appealing abilities is a pretty bold statement.

If he is indeed AC’s personal choice then who are we to doubt. I will trust the judgement of one of the best managers of the last decade.

Are you aware according to reports that we are only pursuing players that are vaccinated. So no point wasting energy or saying we should get certain players as they may not be vaxxed and we won’t sign them. The club know what they are doing.

The idea of anyone on SC highlighting a lack of mental development as an issue makes me laugh like a donkey that's been smoking herbal ciggies

Serie A players had to get vaccinated to play. Think it was 98% of players that were double-jabbed last December.
