They went through periods when they didn't win or score and it looked like they were doomed but they turned it around.

Dude, he was managing Brighton. That isn't a bad CV with what he had available. What De Zerbi is doing now is massively thanks to Potter's work.

No it’s not.

Give potter whatever praise you think he deserves but Brighton’s recruitment is down to an implementation of a strategy at board level, that applies to the recruitment of managers who fit a certain ethos, Potter included.

That is why they are doing well under De Zerbi and it’s also a reason why I would put a * next to both Potter and De Zerbi’s name. The club gives managers a platform to shine.

Not aimed specifically at you but I’m tired of seeing potter supporters saying that Brighton are only doing as well as they are because of Potter, that’s complete hogwash. They are doing as well as they are because they have a solid strategy from the board level down to the youth level, that they have been implementing for a few years already.

This reads like fact. Have you any source to back this up?
I can’t remember the gentleman’s name at Brighton I think Chelsea took him too but there is another South American chap that’s list of players is impressive will find the sthetlic article after work

Thing is I don't think too many are advocating that De Zerbi is is top of their lists either I'm certainly not. When you have a seamless transition of in's and outs in coaches, and more so with Brighton in players too I'd say it is more down to how well things are set out and achieved at board level. I'm not saying Potter doesn't deserve any credit for this, and in the same way De zerbi deserves a share of the praise as well. fact is though I think it's in the most part down to excellent recruitment from the top to the bottom that has seen Brighton go from strength to strength more so than the coaching.

People here are putting de Zerbi high up their lists and say it would be exciting.

But based on what? If anything he's still a big risk because he's been here a short time and hasn't even been able to want players in a summer transfer window.

I think he is a terrific coach, but unfortunately I don’t think it works at a top club he needs every player to buy in with no ego the more successful he gets the less the players want to work or be micro managed/coached
But doesn’t this say more about the players then it does about Potter?

We’re not for one minute saying Pep doesn’t coach his players? And he’s the most successful manager of all time.

Slot defensive stats in Eredivisie:

22/23 Feyenoord
2nd best defence: 26 conceded in 27 games (Twente best defence with 22 conceded in 27 games)
Shots Conceded per Game: Ranked joint 1st with 8.7 (Ajax the same, Twente next with 11.1)

21/22 Feyenoord
2nd best defence: 34 conceded in 34 games (Ajax best defence with 19 conceded in 34 games)
Shots Conceded per Game: Ranked 2nd with 8.9 (Ajax top with 7.9)

20/21 AZ Alkmaar - Sacked in December as he was talking to Feyenoord

19/20 AZ Alkmaar (season ended after 25 games due to Covid)

1st best defence: 17 conceded in 25 games (Ajax 2nd best defence with 23 conceded in 25 games)
Shots Conceded per Game: Ranked 2nd with 10.6 (Ajax top with 9.6)
Stats cutting through the lazy narrative that under Slot we'd be Ardilles-esque, gung ho 'fuck the defending' etc. etc.

According to research…”it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit and an average of 66 days for a new behaviour to become automatic”.
With the above said… and using 254 as the bottom line, maybe 7 months is a little soon to judge a manager, especially one who’s known for his ability to ‘coach’ and better players.

I would categorise my preferences as:

Would Be Over The Moon With:
- Poch
- Nagelsmann

Would Be Excited With:
- Slot
- De Zerbi
- Kompany

Could Accept/See the logic of:
- Postecoglu
- Amorim
- Potter

Agree need to be pragmatic and support who is appointed.

I honestly think Potter is underrated because his name is Potter, and he comes across as a bit of a boring English bloke. I think people would be more excited about him if he was Spanish for example.
I sense you are projecting yourself onto others with such a narrow minded view.

Worth adding that the last time they lost was a 4-3 loss to PSV back on the 18th of September. They have gone 30+ games unbeaten in all comps since then.

It's incredibly short-termist to say "de Zerbi's doing better than Potter" because it ignores who laid those foundations in the first place. Yes, Chelsea was a disaster that he didn't handle well, but he's very obviously a good manager. I don't see how you can look at de Zerbi's team doing well (and they are doing well) and ignore that it was Potter himself who left them in 4th.

He's a sign that all that glitters ain't gold. He won't be our manager - Levy's not daft, the optics are too bad - but he'll be fine.
Potter did lay the foundation however, the big myth was that Brighton can’t score because they don’t have a good Striker. De Zerbi expelled that Myth. So De Zerbi deserves a lot of credit also maybe people should Look at what De Zerbi has done previously.

Disagree and unfair of you to target this poster.

It’s been said by a lot of “football people” over the years that fans can often adopt the magpie approach of swooping down on something that looks shiny only to realise it’s rubbish.

Graham from Solihull who started his coaching career at Leeds Met Uni, doesn’t sound as fancy as [insert foreign name] from [insert foreign country] who’s previously worked alongside Pep.

Dress it up however way you like, but as a generalised comment, something new & exciting will always trump something that looks used but practical.

I didn’t read the OP comment to be manipulative, projecting or narrow minded in the slightest - you targeting the reply won’t do much for further engagement.

After doing some light research and watching a couple of Feyenoord matches I found online, I'm now more than fine with Slot as a candidate

I by no means want Potter to be our next manager, but for the life of me I can’t understand some people clamouring for someone like Kompany and dismissing Potter.
Neither are right for us right now but I definitely put Potter above Kompany.

Anyway, Arne Slot’s blue and white army!!!!!

I think we need a good defensive manager who can come in and steady the ship.

Maybe Steve Cooper could be a good shout? Young, British, and knows the league.

But failing that, a manager who plays a back 5 would be ideal in order to get the best out of Perisic.

We can then integrate Ndombele and Lo Celso back into the team as creative midfielders with a solid base of Sanchez, Dier, and Lenglet behind them.

There are a lot of players coming back from loans so I doubt we will need many/if any transfers in the summer - as any half-decent manager should be able to get a tune out of them.

Do I sound like Levy yet?

Anyone seen anything of Middlesbrough this season, on how Carrick sets the team up.
#Carrickball appears to be the football’istas championship equivalent of #Xaviball and prior to that #Potterball.

Jokes aside he’s got Middlesbrough playing some crazy possession based football. Their upturn in results since his appointment has been day & night.
