Well the alternative was we spent £11mil on a player that Jose at the time, and no manager since has wanted. 11 million is a lot more than 8 million mate.
Wasn't it £8m more, meaning in addition to whatever Sporting had originally rejected?

Another rubbish buzz word that doesn’t actually mean anything without context.

If only we had stuck with what we had in Poch and backed his rebuild. We’d likely have won something by now. He came closer than either of these ‘serial winners’ who play defensive anti-football.
People say things like this and it gets a lot of winner ratings but I'm afraid it's just not true. Poch had had enough, he wanted out. The reasons for this are not for this thread.

We will never know will we. But that just identifies Levy and the clubs issue in not supporting the manager.

If Poch got Bruno Fernandes in

If Mourinho got Ruben Dias or Skriniar for the extra and not the cheap option of Joe Rodon.

If we went big and got in Gvardiol or Bastoni instead of Lenglet.

I'm going to say we may have just been ok...

See who the problem is.....
A problem. Managers were also a problem

Yep he's reluctance to accept defeat on a player and take a loss is detrimental.

Lloris, Sanchez, Dier, Lucas, Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Perisic, Tanganga, Rodon should not be there once season kicks off but we know majority will still be here.

At least half of them have one year or less left on their contracts. And a few will go out on loan.

I think one of the main problems is finding teams who will pay their salaries rather than us pricing them out of moves in terms of transfer fees.

Didn't Poch opt for Lo Celso instead of Bruno? And wasn't it Mourinho who didn't want Dias? Genuine questions btw. I'm sure this is what has been reported and said on here for years?

I get the Skriniar, Gvardiol, and Bastoni argument, but the last two (maybe even Skriniar?) seemed unattainable no matter what.
Dias was always going to city.

You make a powerful case, but if he were to be appointed and fail there would be lots of posters on SC stating why it was obvious he would never be a success at Tottenham (whether the reasons are true or not);

+No Prem Experience
+Our Academy set up is not as good as Sporting's so his reliance on the youngsters was never going to work
+He has never managed big egos
+He wasn't backed
etc, etc, etc
Also a good argument against Mason

Other upsides to Amorim.

+ Walked into an absolute mess of a bloated squad with a mix average players and old players like Wendel, Vietto, Battaglia and Acuna. They had just lost Bruno Fernandes too who was basically Sporting's only reliable player. He sold all of these and wiped the slate clean.

+ Fully trusts youth players, he does not hesitate in putting them in as soon as he walks in the door.

+ Replacing from within. If Spurs were to lose Kane, Im certain he'd give Scarlett and Lankshear as much chances as possible.

+ Uses a fluid front three, so again, if we lost Kane he'd work around it quite well.

+ Has a fantastic relationship with his players and his younger players love him for giving them chances.

+ He always takes blame for defeats and takes any pressure from young players.

+ He is adaptable and resourceful so will always look for solutions in the squad without shoehorning players in.

+ His assistant coach - Carlos Fernandes - is superb on the training ground and is very refreshing in this respect. He's only 28 but has 10 years of coaching behind him.

+ He spent his first summer recalling players who had been loaned out like Palhinha and Reis.
Then raiding talents from smaller Portuguese clubs like Paulinho, Nuno Santos, Pedro Goncalves whilst promoting players like Inacio and Tiago Tomas.

All of these players became major players for them.

He fits what we are looking for by a lot of metrics and I can certainly see him fitting at the club.

He won't kick off if players are sold and if the club decide to buy a bunch of young talents that he didn't ask for, he would still use them and find use for them.
this all sounds ideal...but the 3-4-3 makes it a no from me

£8m more on top of whatever the bid we put in was which was more than 11m. Doesn't matter, he would have had other clubs immediately spring to attention similar to Dias. In fact didn't City sign him in that exact same window?

This is part of the main issue at Spurs though is it not, Levy failing to shift players and we get the old need to shift players before we can strengthen line...

Appreciate the informative post on Amorim though he does sound promising.

We shouldn’t need a big churn of players though. He plays 3-4-3 and is happy to promote within or coach what he has. That is the point.

The European market is fucked. All our rivals are struggling to sell players too.
