He spent a year at Chelsea, then a year at Everton. Despite clearly being past his prime at Chelsea, he still managed 9 goals in 21 PL games.Hoddle said that he was close to signing both Eto and Fernandinho Morientes (for £15m) during his stint as manager.
Morientes ended up at Liverpool for a bit I remember but struggled in the PL. Eto probably would have done better but was a spent force when he had a short stint at Everton.
As manager then it would have to be Alex Ferguson. Scholar had got his verbal agreement to take over in the mid 80’s but then United sacked BigRon and he got the call - the rest is history…….
Going further back……Bobby Moore and we tried to get him twice. He wanted to come as would have increased his money but West Ham blocked it.
Thanks- forgot about the stint at Chelsea .He spent a year at Chelsea, then a year at Everton. Despite clearly being past his prime at Chelsea, he still managed 9 goals in 21 PL games.
I'd forgotten about Beckham. He ended up just training with us to get in shape for England didn't he?Gerry Francis said zidane was 'too wooden' iirc?
Beckham but 'arry said we couldn't sort out his insurance.
Can't believe Grealish not mentioned! Still so underrated, genuinely one of the very very best in the game right now, the constant threat he gives you is tremendous.
