We need help at LW as is, very much hope this doesn't happen. Only reason I'd even be okay with it is if Mertens somehow comes back the other way.

Would be awesome but I just can't see it happen.

Chadli said in an interview that he wants to show "the real Chadli" this season so I don't think he will leave:

"Tottenham is my goal. I haven't receieved an offer from Galatasaray in fact the first I heard about this was from the Belgium and Turkish press.

"I am preparing for the World Cup and that is my only concern right now.

"I have not heard anything from Galatasaray and still have a contract with Tottenham for another four years. I have no intention to leave.

“At one time we were ten players for three positions , but I never panicked. We have all played together over sixty games.

"I think I’ve played it a little more than half. That’s not bad for my first season , but I think they only get to see next season the real Chadli at the Spurs.”

I like Mertens a lot but I think I would prefer Insigne, younger and has the potential to be a extreamly good player. Ether way I can't see it happening. I would be very worried about selling Chadli as he is the closest thing we have to a natural LW at the moment. I would like to see Andros there at some point but he needs a lot of work and has never looked comfortable on the left.

We'd probably have an easier time signing Insigne than Mertens right now and I don't even remember if Mertens had a good season at Napoli or not. De Laurentiis is a very special man.

Hope we keep Chadli but I guess its possible that if Poch wants to get that left sided hybrid type he requires for his style and doesn't feel Chadli fits that role well enough....who knows.

If you saw my comment in the Lovren thread, you'll see that player comments about their current club mean next to nothing. Not saying you're wrong at all of course, just saying that I don't view players saying anything about their futures as indication of anything substantial.

11 goals and 5 assists in the league from mostly sub appearances among 21 total appearances. I'd say that's a fine season.

His height also helps if we're trying to play Soldado as a lone striker. We can go route one to Chadli and he can flick it on.
Useful player who we should definitely keep - tho still not sure he's a holding midfielder o_O.

Yeah that was said rather tongue-in-cheek as the chances of either coming our way are rather bleak IMO, although I think Mertens would be willing.

Also agree with the rest of your assessment of the LW situation.

He's not a left winger in any shape or form though - he doesn't like playing there, he doesn't look comfortable there, he doesn't have the pace to go by a fullback. All his better performances last season came once he moved more centrally.

Never been a big fan of Chadli, he just doesn't seem sharp enough for the PL, but it's early days and he's still young and maybe can adjust. If we get a decent offer then I wouldn't be unhappy to sell as I just don't see him as ever being a regular starter, but if we keep him as a cover player he has some good qualities that can hopefully be developed

We need to add a LWF, not sell our only one.

Chadli is decent back-up. I like how tidy he is - never gives the ball away.

Just for clarification, are you referring to Mertens or Chadli? I think Chadli, but I want to be certain.

Chadli has been OK, but not exactly a match winner.

Not fussed as to whether he stays or leaves.

I like Chadli, for sure I believe in him for next season at Spurs. I think it would be a shame to sell any of last summer's 7 after only 1 season.

Good player to have in the squad. I don't think he is first team quality yet.

At least he has versatility to his game. Can play LF, RF and played CM for quite a few games.

We have so many players in the squad, we are in the enviable position of being able to reshape the squad without making a loss. Poch will obviously want to bring in some players to suit his style, so if he wants to sell any of last summer's 7 then so be it (except for Erik of course, who would appear to have more upside than any of the others).
