Chelsea, Man U and Chelsea have won the three previous League Cups. Liverpool won it in 2003 (beating Man U in the final). Chelsea's final wins came against Liverpool and Arsenal.

For teams that don't care about the competition they do tend to win the fucker quite often. Around the turn of the century it was definitely a fairly insignificant trophy. Not anymore. Only boring clubs like Blackburn and Villa can't be arsed with it now, because they have no desire to win trophies.

For them, finishing sixth in the Premier League is more important. After yesterday's experience, I can tell them categorically that they're very, very wrong.

I read on the Chelsea forums that this game meant more to them than the CL matches they've been playing recently!!!!

It does seem like a lot of the other clubs have a "we probably won't win it, so why bother mentality" towards both the cups these days. But I think not only is winning silverware big, but doing it against a Top 4 side, who really wants to win too. Not only did we win, but we took it to Chelsea. We didn't change our football because of the stage we were on or the team we were playing. We played Tottenham Hotspur football, it wasn't always easy because Chelsea do everything in their ability to stop any pretty football from being played in a match they're involved in, but we fought for it. And we're the league cup winners for it =). More then that though, we shouldn't be scared of anyone anymore.

I think the cup was more meaningless when we won it last time tbh.

The top 4 have started to play for it again in recent years

absolutely Kendall. its only since Chelsea took more interest in the cup that the biggest teams dominated the spots in the final

liverpool used to be the only team interested for a while wasnt they then it was and still is Chelsea in terms of being in the final the most (from the 'big four')

Recently, the big four have all used it as a foundation to build on. Liverpool with their cup treble, Chelski as Mourinho's first trophy, Man U won it when SAF was rebuilding his team around Rooney & Ronaldo, the Scum have used it to give experience to young squad players. They know it's a very valuable competition when it comes to teaching a team to get over the finishing line and win silverware. It can do that for us too.

The fact it was the 'big 4' who had monopolised the past years would suggest that it means something. It's been a fair while since they sent out very weak sides to give people a run out. I remember it being called meaningless and worthless when I was younger (and when we won it last) because the big clubs didnt really try for it, but they do now.
And it puts us in europe again, so I don't care how 'meaningless' it is!

Beating a world class side like Chelsea in only the 2nd ever final at the new Wembley does eclipse edging out Leicester when we had Justin Edinburgh playing for us.

At the start of the season it's our 4th prority too. no one denies it's place in relation to other throphies... but it's one of ONLY 4 things we can win and the journey to lifting it is significant too.

City away (unbeaten at home in all competitions), Ar5ena1 and then Chavs. We did it the hardway and with such dominance too. That is what gives this win it's biggest significance.. who we beat and under what circumstance we beat them.

i know it's the same cup but this is many times more meaningful than our 1999
victory.

Was a really important win for us, this takes all the pressure off and allows us to concentrate on the UEFA cup for the reat of the season. Also in the league the pressure will be off but i believe we could make top seven, the team will play more relaxed and as we all know Spurs playing under pressure are very gittery and prone to the odd clanger!

^Pffft at being gittery and prone to the odd clanger...

That was before Ledders and Woody! And even Juande! The only way to go is up from here, recently we have outplayed Man United at home, Arsenal home and away and now Chelsea at Wembley.

Spurs are finally living up to our potential by playing the kind of attacking football that we all love, aswell as getting the results that really matter!

As Gus said, I hope this is the start of something big...
