Hugo Lloris 8
Powerless to prevent the goals, particularly the second which left him completely wrong-footed.
Made an acrobatic save to deny Thiago Silva a second from another corner and also kept out Alonso’s volley and Timo Werner’s strike to keep the scoreline down.

Emerson Royal 6
After a nightmare debut against Wilfried Zaha last weekend, endured another difficult afternoon against Marcos Alonso and lost the Spaniard for a volleyed chance at the start of the second half.

Cristian Romero 6
Looked OK on his full Premier League debut, particularly given he had just one training session with the squad last week. Tired towards the end and replaced with a knock.

Eric Dier 6
Saved a certain goal when he blocked Alonso’s shot on the line and unlucky for the first two goals goals. He dealt with Romelu Lukaku for 70 minutes before Spurs fell apart.

Sergio Reguilon 5
Fluffed Spurs’s best chance of the game when his cross was easily intercepted by Antonio Rudiger, with Lo Celso and Royal waiting at the back post. Struggled defensively.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7
Put himself about in a battling display as part of an attack-minded Spurs midfield. Found the second half tougher when Chelsea switched to a three-man midfield with Kante.

Tanguy Ndombele 7
Adding dynamism and creativity to the Spurs midfield with his quick passing between the lines and occasional bursts of speed. Predictably faded before half-time – but has to play.

Dele Alli 5
Put in a shift again but his good defensive work was undone when he allowed Thiago to leap above him for the opening goal. Too deep to impact the game in a meaningful way.

Giovani Lo Celso 5
Looked rusty in an unfamiliar inside right role and lost the ball for Chelsea’s second goal. Did create Spurs’ best chance of the first half with a pass for Son.

Heung-min Son 5
Took a heavy touch when one-on-one with Kepa in Spurs’ best opening of the first half. Rarely threatened Chelsea’s back line thereafter.

Harry Kane 5
Spent most of the game battling for the ball in deep positions, so had a limited impact in the final third. Tested Kepa in the second half with a fierce drive.

Substitutes
Oliver Skipp (Ndombele 62’) 6
Put himself about but his introduction underlined the big difference between these two squads. Made a late tackle to deny Lukaku.

Bryan Gil (Lo Celso 62’) 6
Was lively and produced the occasionally flash. But remains a work in progress in the Premier League and an unlikely saviour for Spurs.

Davinson Sanchez (Romero 83’) 6
Late sub to save Romero’s legs.

I've been worried about Reg(4) for a few months now . Its not working with him imo , he's like a permanent rookie who
looks like experience will improve him..but just doesn't .
Royal(6) may improve with experience , lets hope so . Son(4) back from injury seemed barely there . Romero(8) was the one bright spot for me . I'm no Dele(5) fan at the best of times..he tries a bit these days ,but is that enough anymore ?
Lo Celso's(4) golden period in his first season seems so far off now .Mebbe his injury has permanently crocked him.

We came close to a severe 4 or 5 goal drubbing .The instant we came out 2nd half I was going wtf ! Like the opposite of an inspirational half time teamtalk effect , we looked instantly weak and disengaged .

Lloris 8 couldn’t do anything more, no chance with any of the goals

Royal 6 thought he looked okay, especially first half

Dier 8 mom for me, thought he led the line well highlighted by the freeze frame on Sky when he was telling PEH to push up and he didn’t which led to the second goal

Romero 7 looked okay, dealt with what he had to

Reguilon 5 caught out of position too often, distribution and crossing a worry, seems to have gone backwards

Hojbjerg 5 not at the races today, sitting too deep

Ndombele 7 thought he was looking okay, surprised to see him taken off

Dele 2 big problem. Should have been playing where lo Celso was. At fault for first goal (although dier did have his elbow on his shoulder when he came in)I don’t see where he fits into a team in any formation apart from floating off Kane.

Son 5 looked lively first half, stopped pressing in the second half and he became anonymous

Lo Celso 3 what exactly is he? Didn’t see anything today to make me think he’ll actually help us going forward

Kane 3 quite clearly not interested, major lack of service into him but even so he looked totally disinterested

Skipp 6 looked lively, done okay

Bryan 4 how much did he cost?

Can agree with every single one of these ratings except Bryan. Thought he looked more likely to do something positive than lo celso

It’s so fascinating that we see things so differently! I can’t see how Dier can get below a 7 he was actually quite good today and showed some real leadership at the back. The only player to get more than a 7 is Hugo.

I think we should either have a new thread or change this thread to “the worst player of the match”……it’s only just begun….

Reggie was by far the worst player of the match and I struggle to give him a 3 today.

Thought we were actually quite good in the first half and some of our interplay in midfield was the best I've seen from us in the league. Ndombele and Hojbjerg did well and we were playing some nice stuff without really threatening, while pressing Chelsea and preventing them playing their natural game.

In the second half Chelsea tweaked the system, we tired and then they got a couple of cheap goals. After that our heads dropped, our two most technical midfielders went off and it descended into a complete shitshow.

Overall there were a few promising signs - I thought Royal, Ndombele, Hojbjerg, Llloris and Romero all looked good - but Chelsea are clearly leagues ahead of us and you simply can't afford to give away sloppy goals (the corner goal) or have bad luck (the deflected goal) against them.

My main concern is the tactical system rather than the result. The way Tuchel instantly instilled a very particular and effective way of playing at Chelsea is a stark contrast to Nuno. I don't think he's a bad manager but I really don't think he has the strategic nous to have us punching above our weight, which is our only chance of challenging the top teams, beyond signing excellent players.

Not the end of the world and this 11 should beat most non top 4 teams when sharp, but zero chance of CL football next season by the looks of it.

I must have been watching a different game in a parallel universe on another planet. We were utterly abysmal bar the first 20 or 30 mins.
The problem i have with us as a team, squad, tactics call it whatever you like. We simply dont have a way of playing or system so arent buying players for that system. If your front 3 are narrow then the width needs to come from the fullbacks. I see nothing from any of our fullbacks that they want to get to the byline or even more so in the box. They stay wide and at time get high but they then just pass it back. Hardly ever put crosses into the box and we rarely have anyone in the box. Just been too long now without a clue what to do with the ball. Shambles for nearly 2 years.

Chelsea are the best team in world football? I honestly though Chelsea were pretty average and we were crap.

If we won the CL we wouldn't have been the best team in world football. The best don't always win. Leicester have never been the best team in the PL but won the PL

Chelsea didn't pick us apart with great football and flair. They allowed us to beat ourselves in the second half

We have a bad habit over 4 managers to retreating to our shell and struggle to get our attacking players involved, second half it continued again

I will say Chelsea one of the most dangerous counterattacking team in the PL, but we gave them so much space to attack, we allowed them to outnumber us on the break

I think teams now realise to beat us, just sit deep and wait for us to fuck up and make a mistake

This is it,
What do Nuno, Poch and Mourinho have all in common?

Their philosophy is built on what you do off the ball and not on it! (Poch pressing, Mourinho Counter attacking, Nuno playing deep and being aggressive)

During Poch's best period we had a DUTCH SPINE! Four players who all learnt their trade under the total football system of LVG and De Boer with Alderweireld, Eriksen, Vertonghen and Dembele)

As soon as Eriksen declined and dembele left, the wheels have fallen off! and it doesn't look the same

WE need a manager who coaches these players on how to be on the ball, its what they have been asking for and we never got it

Lloris- 6
Royal - 3
Romero - 4
Dier - 4
Reguillon - 3
Ndombele - 4
PEH - 4
GLC - 5
Dele - 2
Son - 4
Kane - 2

Skipp - 6
Bryan - 4

My concern is how vulnerable we look, we have pretty much been outplayed every game this season. No control in the midfield. Defence has looked ok a few of the games but when they’ve been under any sort of sustained pressure they flap about like a drunk person trying to unlock a door. Until we regain some sort of dominance in the midfield we’re gonna be in for another frustrating season. We can look lively at times but there is no composure or end product....very frustrated Spurs fan ?

I like royal. Although I‘m pretty certain he’s undercover atouba. Atouba was cool. u_U Miles better than reguilon, who let them in constantly, ran blindly into their players or just hit weird toe punt type passes then run Forrest ran in a straight a line, the usual for him. He’s has the brainlessness of Walker without the defensive ability. I really hope he improves. Maybe he’s pretending to be shit so Madrid don’t take him back.

Dele was rubbish because he is, lo Celso anonymous but I really don’t think the rest were so bad. Hojbjerg i liked a lot, sonny too, Ndombele is incredible so obv we hooked him. Defense were alright. Massively outplayed them and pressed better than we have since early poch but then got out thought by tuchel and they still only went ahead through a one in a million fluke deflection and a corner.

Would still like nuno out because it’s boring not being reactionary. Plus he’s miserable. I’d like potter but I suspect he has a Tumblr account complaining about the patriarchy.

Think we could do with a redknapp type to make everyone smile again, play sonny and Gil either side of dickhead, attacking wingbacks, one of Hojbjerg or Skipp, and ndombele given license to do what the fuck he likes. Get some Tottenham back.

edit: one note on dele. The way the commentators always react like he’s some kind of genius. He hit one absolute piece of piss first time round the corner pass and they went into transports. ? Don’t say much the billionth time he smashes the ball into touch attempting a long pass.

No one was particularly terrible, but we looked a beaten team the minute the 1st goal went in. We were pretty good up until then.

On 75-80 mins 2 down against fierce rivals we are just passing it around our defenders and went out with a bit of a whimper really.

Hugo only real MotM option imo.

Lloris - 7 (Could have been embarrassing had it not been for him)
Emerson - 5 - Is it me or does he look really slow?! technically not great but I think he will be a steady eddy type.
Romero & Dier 6 - Actually thought they did well which is weird as we conceded 3. Really do like the look of Romero
Reguillon - 4 - When he is bad, he is really really bad. Shocker.
Hojbjerg - 7 - Superb first half. The attacking midfield didnt help him second half and proved costly.
Lo Celso - 5 - Got in good positions but have no idea what he actually does. 2nd goal his fault
Ndombele - 5 - Talented as we all know but so unfit its scary. Was blowing.
Dele - 5 - Worked hard but he actually isnt offering much in this deeper role.
Kane - 4- Shocking. Thought he looked really disinterested which is concerning BUT he usually starts seasons poorly so will hold fire
Son - 5 - Anonymous but will give credit to Thiago Silva who played very well.

Skipp - 6- Done well when he come in and has to start for me next week.
Gil - Love that he wants to go forward but physically way off it. Need to be patient with him.

Overall I thought first half was pretty good but we all knew we needed a goal as keeping that intensity up all game was nearly impossible considering how unfit we were last season. Chelsea went up a gear second half and those first 10 of second half killed the game. Frustrating its a corner and lucky goal.

But some perspective. If you saw our first 5 fixtures and said 9 points, youd say thats about right. Palace game with all the injuries, sending off, Ben Davies's performance... I would say was a bit of a freak result. Todays game just showed we are way off it.

Need a big performance against that lot. Kane needs to start his season now.

True this, but it's a common problem. Once you realize the better team is up you lose the determination to challenge, especially when fatigue kicks in.

First half solid performance pressing and moving the ball, benefits of having a Ndombele, GLC. Once the press lost its legs which was inevitable and Chelsea made their change our game couldn’t and didn’t respond.

Lloris, Dier and Romero solid and Romero looks very comfortable with the ball.

midfield looked ok in first half although apart from setting Reguilon free Dele struggled to contribute. Second half all at sea with Ndombele out of gas at half time. Silva goal quite soft.

GLC good first half and would normally have seen Son finish the chance. Sloppy getting dispossessed for second with PEH and Ndombele caught sleeping. Needs to get fit to last longer as once off we had no one comfortable in possession. Son and Kane tried hard in first but disappeared in second with no service, not sure the Kane on the left ploy worked need him in the box and Son around the box.

Reguilon should have done better with chance and generally underwhelming Royal did ok generally

Nuno had a game plan but it was never going to be sustainable pressing like that and had no plan B to transition out of the press tactic and didn’t respond to Chelsea

hojbjerg motm - did some good tidying up

I disagree with nono and others who think we have found something to build on.
The high pressing was brilliant for 20 mins, but that was a special treat from kane. Kane gave up pressing for us years ago, and ndom certainly has no interest in running very much. Ali will if others are, but unless everyone presses and stops them playing out, there is no point doing it at all against such a technical side.

Levy really hates it when fans leave early, and they were right that there was never even a chance of a consolation goal. Or shot. It was a pathetic showing in the second half, and paratici will need to do some explaining why this is going so wrong.
