People are on his back now. This is our problem as a fanbase, we’ve no patience. We need to give him time to build the team the way he wants it.
I have the patience if we learn from our mistakes and do something about it. The defending of our corners was shocking and has been most of the season. You put that right and we could have won. Defending a corner has nothing to do with our attacking ethos.

That should apply to all managers.

To be fair 3 windows including 2 summer ones is not bad. You’d expect to start seeing some results after that period and the squad should be well on its way to being shaped in his image.

Also, by Ange’s own admission, and as his CV shows, he doesn’t tend to stay longer than 3 years at a place so I don’t expect him , at the end of next season, to be saying it’s still early days in our progression mate.
Yeah, I know and I was only taking the mick.

But, and there's always a "but", if we do go out and get him a bundle of new players, we also need to show a bit of patience while they integrate into the squad and tactics. They won't all fit seamlessly in straight away.

He gets the whole of next season at least for me, unless we completely implode, which I can't see happening.

Everyone has a right to criticise but we need to be patient.
this is Arteta‘s 4th season, it’s Ange’s first. He is doing ok but we have to stick with it and see how/if he improves us. I certainly don’t want to start yet another cycle of sacking a manager and starting again.
If he carries on with zonal marking you might find he will have a problem making 2 years let alone 4!

Yeah that’s about where I’m at. Give him next season unless we’re in a relegation battle at Christmas and re-evaluate at the end of next season.

if we finish between 6-10th at the end of next season playing some good football in patches but terrible football in others then I’ll probably want to see him gone but yeah, wait and see init.

Nah. What is embarrassing is the naive assertion that what is said in a post-match press conference is the same as what is being said in the dressing room and on the training pitch.

Do you really think a manager who has openly stated he wants us to be title challenger will just ignore an issue like this? Be honest.

Fair enough. If behind the scenes he's fully on board with improving our set pieces either via better recruitment or creating a dedicated staff for them (ideally both), then great!

But I can only evaluate what I see and know for sure. I see we're having problems and our coach plays down the importance of such issues.

It's very possible that behind the scenes he's been banging about the need to improve our set pieces (both in defence and offence), but right now it's costing us points.

It worries me, because we have some issues in open play, but it would make our game much easier if we improved our set pieces.

So, you want to be like Arsenal's fanbase?
I'm one billion percent Ange in but a lack of patience isn't a Tottenham issue. It's a football one.

We're overly passionate, reactionary and demanding. I remember man uts fans lecturing the world on patience and showing how well run they were because of stability but that was bollocks . They were stable because Ferguson was a genius and constantly successful.

I find calls for him to go laughable and a bit dim to be honest but you will never please all the people all of the time.

You may well be right, but it's shite.

The same people calling Ange naive and so on are more than likely the same ones admiring Arsenal for sticking with their man and getting rewarded.

Nothing worthwhile was achieved quickly - even City took a while to spend their billions well, but for us anything other than instant success justifies the spouting of so much nonsense.

It irritates me too but they're just letting off steam.

None of us know as much as we think but offering an opinion is cathartic and sort of makes us feel involved.

Plus football clubs are community based and for the fans anymore anyway. It doesn't surprise me that many get so angry so easily.

Ange says the fans will make the decision about whether he’s been successful or not. I said at the time that was a stupid thing to say. lol.

It's generally how it works though - Conte, Jose and Poch all went once the fans had turned on them and stayed that way for a few weeks.

Hasn’t he said on record that the reason for not staying in jobs very long is just down to preference. He likes coming into places that are underperforming and need a rebuild and when said rebuild is done he likes to look for the next one.

I may be misinterpreting what he’s said and it’s possible, given he’s now coaching at the highest level he’s ever coached at before, that he might change his attitude a bit and sees the value in building something with us over a longer period of time, but I don’t think his CV shows that nor his comments.

Also, I think there are other cubs around our level that could interest him.

If the rebuild is fighting for a title or winning something he could be here for 4-5 years. This is a totally different level of job he is now doing. If he leaves end of next season us in 5th then he has failed with us and that would be I think the first failure of his career.

I do think his very well intentioned attitude towards officials is costing us.

Since that Liverpool game we haven't got a thing and it feels to me (admittedly a passionate, slightly thick fan) that froms a refs point of view they don't mind not giving us difficult decisions as we don't put any pressure on them whatsoever.

The lack of penalties despite all our attacking football, the fouling of Vicario that is now allowed, can you name another player sent off for diving? The other tackles ignored just like Romero's against Chelsea.

It's not a conspiracy and I'm not saying everyone is against us but if you make it clear you won't have a go at a ref when others do everything they can to make their lives as hard as possible then to a referee it must subconsciously feel like they can make calls against us far easier than an arsenal for example who go for them over everything.
100%

Said it before.

It has to be on a refs conscious.

Look at how Arsenal behaved to 3 decisions that were all on the line and up for interpretation.

They wanted to crucify the PGMOL.

What was their response? A very soft punishment and weeks of Arsenal getting 50/50 calls in their favour.

Notice how Arteta hasn't had to say anything about decisions since then?

No because his plan worked,

Same as Klopp

Same as Fergie

Same as Jose

Refs are now scared, or at least conscious about the consequences.

They could get taken off games, demoted etc etc

I'm fed up of it.

And I have severely lost interest in the PL because of it

I reckon he's right to hold the line on this and admire him for doing so. Aside from being bug eyed and boring, moaning about refs is a classic overused way of deflecting culpability and rejecting responsibility. And that feeds in to how players behave and use excuses.

You can see the point clearly in the Saka goal. Instead of playing the whistle, our players first complain and then switch off. So havertz has the freedom of the park to pass over the top, instead of being swarmed by a marker or two who force him to turn back or lose possession. They played the whistle, we got all moany and left them do what they wanted.

Ange spotted it a mile off and the players are not dialed in anywhere near enough as yet. If he moaned about the ref too, they'd feel vindicated
This is a fair point and one I like, I just think in general, we don't seem to get many decisions (could just be a spurs tinted glasses though)!
