Portuguese newspaper Record have reported today that Tottenham Hotspur are in the hunt for Zenit St Petersburg defender Luis Neto. Central defenders Ledley King, Steven Caulker and William Gallas have left the club in recent months and therefore manager Andre Villas Boas is likely to be looking to bring in reinforcements for his defence.
Record revealed Villas Boas had sent scouts to watch the Portuguese international in action in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Holland in midweek. According to reports Neto impressed during the game and managed to cancel out Manchester United’s Robin van Persie throughout the match. Inter Milan were also in attendance at the game as they too are keen on the 25 year old.
Neto only joined the Russian side in the last winter transfer window and is contracted to the club until 2017 but this is unlikely to put Spurs off. It is still probable the Premier League club will make a proposal for the player but will have to pay a lot more than the €6.5m Zenit paid for the ex Sienna defender eight months ago. Both Spurs and Inter Milan have hopes to enter into negotiations with Zenit for the player.
The Tottenham manager's pursuit for Neto comes after his complimentary comments to the Portuguese press about players from his home country. He told Record that whether they are playing in the Portuguese league or elsewhere, players from Portugal interest him. He said on an individual basis players from Portugal have a lot of talent. Having spoken to the Portuguese newspaper exclusively last week, it wouldn't be a great leap of faith to think that Villas Boas spoke to them off record about Neto.

Can't say I know anything about this guy tbh.
