With better defenders and Bentancur, I think we would’ve beaten these guys quite comfortably….
Agree. But as always with Tottenham for quite a while now, games and seasons have come down to, if this and if that. If we had this player, and if our back line wasn't awful. If we had a full time manager, if we hadn't already sacked 2 managers this year, if we hadn't been plagued by injuries, if the players hadn't been defensively coached for 3 years... etc etc..

At the end of the day, Tottenham have the power to be whatever they want, they just have to, and must choose it.

In addition to the Jota one that could and should gave been a red, there's also a case for saying Salah should also have been red carded. I know that Davies was tugging at his shirt as they were running alongside one another for the ball but that was clearly a deliberate elbow in the face that drew blood just before our free kick for the equaliser, Salah knew exactly what he was doing. Isn't VAR supposed to intervene in cases like this where there's deliberate retaluation. Again if that is one of our players doing that VAR intervenes and its a red at Anfield all day long.....

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Continuing to play Dier and a 2 man midfield......

Who do you suggest we play in place of Dier? Davies who just got back from injury? Sanchez who got booed by the home crowd? Tanganga who has barely played due to injury himself?

Back 4 clearly doesn't work.

Lenglet can play CCB.

Absolutely he has a mistake in him but at least he can pass it a bit. Dier is a liability in defence and with the ball at the moment

Man Utd have a shit tonne of injuries at CB but rather than play one of their 2 fit ones (Maguire)
Due to him playing about the same as Dier is now they have chosen to go with a LB, not a LCB that can play in a 2 but an out and out LB in Shaw, who is probably smaller than Chris Perry.

There has to come a time where you say enough is enough.
Don't know if Mason has it in him though, especially if it means alienating a mate in what is probably his least few weeks at the club.

If we're intent on persisting with a 3 I would like to see Lenglet in the centre with Davies Left and Romero Right. Or even Davies.

Hopefully Mason now realises we’re so much better on the front foot than sitting 9 men behind the ball and still not tracking runners.

Ref watch on Sky:

Klopp yellow was warranted but 2 of the panel disagreed said it was passion and can be seen at lower leagues.

Jota all agreed definitely a red.
Skipp tackle on Diaz 2 agree not red and two say definitely a red. Warnock & Smith disagreed not really shocked.

Richy penalty 3 agree no penalty.

Not really surprised by any of the above.

It’s not a case of defending Dier’s performance, they can’t be defended, he has been poor and isn’t getting any better! It’s just that with Dier in the team, some people see other players have a get out of gaol Card for how others defend

the fact that we’ve conceded 12 goals in 3 games, no one in the defence is not culpable.

I am a fan of Dier but I get that he has been poor and is perhaps not good enough, it is sad but no room for sentiments if we want to get to where we want to be. Dont get me started though on Romero, Porro, Lenglet and even beyond that, Sessegnon and Perisic who alll havent exactly shown themselves to be competent defensively. People get seduced by Romeros chest thumping and clattering in from behind but really he is just as culpable.

Dier will naturally have a light shone on him because he is the deepest of the three and one on one, he hasnt been good enough.

It's too easy on here(internet in general) to just label everyone who doesn't share your opinion with a derogative term. I like to think I'm pretty balanced in my view of all things Spurs, but is it worth arguing it out with a Dier fanboi?
Trix.... you better than that.... I just think the hate on Dier is OTT( not you per se) more generally. .... some balance would be nice by the haters. I support the team and every player who puts on the shirt.

We are in the malaise we in purely as a result of the owners. Players have been mismanaged they've had 4 different managers in 4 years. Are we seriously expecting them to be at their best ?

I thought the Richarlison penalty was a 50/50 because Konate had his arms wrapped around Richarlison. Those types of challenges have been penalised in the past and could easily have been given again. I do wonder that if it was a different player and not at Anfield, it may have been given.

Skipp's follow through was nasty. I thought it was a hard yellow, but not enough for a red. Jota on the other hand had no business having his foot up that high with his studs showing. Even if Skipp does dip his head slightly (and it was ever so slightly), it's still a high boot. Gallagher goes out of his way to blame the lack of a red card on anyting but the officials being incompetent.

And in a league of incompetent officials, Tierney is one of the weakest, shittest referees we have. Klopp reckoning he's anti Liverpool is wrong, because Klopp doesn't realise that Tierney just makes bad calls every weekend. It doesn't matter the team, he lets players get away with a lot more, sometimes losing control of games in the process.

I think the criticism of Eric is absolutely fair. But you know what - it's ok to call him out for his mistakes and performances but still like the bloke, believe in him and think he can have a place At this club for the next few years albeit probably altered from his current role.
what, like mowing the grass or something like that?

My views on penalties have always been the same , ‘ if it was given would anyone argue ?’ and for me the answer is No , so it’s a pen . Arms all over Richi , how can that be argued if given . Plenty of pens given recently where the player has barely been touched .

I detest Liverpool and klopp but he’s not wrong here is he?

They’re such a good football team, Tottenham, they have to play better football.

"They can’t just counter-attack, they have to play better football with that team. “

I thought the comments he aimed at Mason post match were incredibly bitchy.

I agree, we have to play better football, but with this team?? No I don't think we can. I certainly don't think it's fair to say such a thing of Mason when he's been in charge for less than a week. There's no way any coach would be able to change our team into a high pressing, possession orientated side in that time.

Seems like a distant memory but he was solid back end of last season. Even remember when he was out injured we were concerned with how we'd cope without him...

I would genuinely play any of them to not have him in the team.

To quote a certain Italian - the players don't like pressure.

We make so many incredible individual errors in big pressure away games. Think of the number of massive errors we make year on year away to the top teams. You could do a long compilation of them against Chelsea alone. The answer is complex I'm sure, but we can't turn up to these games next season with our current calamity defence and think they'll change.

Top of both. Tottenham and Lloris

Regardless of what he feels about what's in front of him, it's the wrong thing to do. He's an experienced international and should know this. He's the Middle CB of a back 3. He's supposed to set the line, and there's no excuse for it just like there's no excuse for Romero coming off his feet to give away the pen, and Porro not checking his back post runner for the first.
Setting the line is his job and he sets it further and further back inviting the pressure onto us.

He goes back, the others go with him and there is no pressure from our midfield, so Romero jumps out and inevitably makes a mistake.

I do think that he could potentially play on the right hand side of the 3 but Romero is ahead of him there.
