It's crazy that given the current pending second wave that this isn't a main headline anywhere. The media downplaying these things sin't gonna help anyone in the long run

The thing that pisses me off the most about it is that Orient said they were going to test their players themselves had we not stepped in and basically done it for them. When? They already took a team of ill players to other League 2 matches, what was their plan for tonight? Were they just going to turn up and act dumb when someone suggested that the "bug" that's rampant through their team MIGHT be linked to the fucking pandemic thing that's going around?

Surely it's a risk to us too, it's ridiculous. The game can't go ahead but i'm not sure awarding us the win is entirely fair either although you might say Orient may not have been following the protocols properly. We might not like it but surely a coin toss sort of thing would be fairer if we can't replay the game?

the tournament rules are clear: if one club (Spurs) is ready to fulfil the fixture as scheduled and one (Orient) aren’t (because PHE likely won’t let them given covid is out of control in their squad and staff). Per the rules Orient forfeit and Spurs get a bye.

Scheduled in less than 6 hours. How can players prepare for a game that may well not go ahead? A decision should have been made by now. If they couldn't reach a decision regarding a new date then cancel it and we get that bye. I know financially it's unfortunate for Orient, but the fact they had a 'bug' go round the squad and they played Mansfield and Plymouth is ridiculous. Thank the lord we had the foresight to test our cup opponents. Bet whoever they have this weekend is thankful as well.
I think we can be fairly certain that there won't be a match tonight, it's just a question of whether it's a cancellation or a postponement (although, to when, I have no idea).

If it's postponed we might have Bale back in time for the rescheduled match. We should unleash him on them to teach them a lesson.

There are rules already in place if clubs cant field a team, and im not sure us going on on a coin toss is fair either.

There is no chance this is postponed. The next round is next week! We have no other open date to give them time to throw a team together. There is no other open date in the schedule until next year either.

We were ready to play. We decided to be cautious and pay for their covid tests when they had multiple people sick and refused to test them. Sorry for the club which is struggling to survive but a) a club should always protect their players safety and their oppositions safety something they neglected to do so its very possible 2 more clubs will have been infected and b) rules are rules.

I was also wondering if they could talk with the Premier League and postpone the Newcastle (and any Orient L2) game to a later date and reschedule the Orient match for Sunday.

Too soon surely. Orient players affected need to self-isolate and if its 18 of the squad they cannot feasibly put a team out. Bye is the only option its just a matter of time before its announced.

If they have to pick a squad from their own fan base so be it, because its either played tonight or we get the bye, simple as that.

Postponing isn't an option, clearly.

Its unfortunate for them, but the problem emanates from their end, not ours.

Newcastle would object anyway. Why should their schedule be clogged up?

How long would it take for Orient to get the all clear though? Surely they'll still be unable to field a team?

They had a lot of ill players, there is a global pandemic, surely they put two and two together?

Stupid by them, thank fk it was picked up before we played them.

I know exactly what you mean. I am working at a German 5th division club and god the last half a year was challenging with not so much positivity in sight.
I agree there should maybe be a pot every Premier League club needs to chunk a million in or so and that gets spread to the lower leagues, in addition of a bonus by the FA if they care about the semi pro clubs. Personally I just don't see it justified in this special case, where it was probably (needs to be cleared) a bit careless of Leyton, because according to rumours you could maybe have seen that coming.
I know your pain.
As head youth coach at a small German team it’s ll been a real headache, and we are under constant threat of fines if we are not following the rules, like clean balls, one way paths, detailing who is present with lists. Cup game for us this evening as well!
