In the last 15 years I can't remember too many attackers to move from Ligue 1 to PL and become a roaring success. Chamakh, Batshuayi, Pepe, Nkoudou, Njie, Lucas, Martial, Saint-Maximin were all bang average at best (Champions League semi-final hat-tricks aside). I think only Hazard, and at a push Lacazette and Giroud could be considered successes.

Would be a massive gamble for the price he'd cost IMO.

No thanks.

Even last season his scoring record is distorted by 10 penalties.

It's good that he can score penalties but his NPG record isn't even that good in Ligue 1.

I take some confidence that he was who Lille identified to replace Osimhen with. His goal return for them has been very good too.

However. A fair amount of those goals are penalties and as far as 'eye test' goes I've never been too blown away by him. With that said, I could see him as a #9 in an Ange team. Good off both feet in the box. Be in the right positions for lots of cut backs and low crosses from wingers/full backs and he'll score plenty imo.

Everyone is a gamble to be honest, except for a few Elite players that we A) can't afford and B) can't attract.

Having sold Kane we really do need to sign someone before the window shuts and this list of possible options is pretty small.

In terms of price - the market is massively over inflated right now, with £100M+ for Rice and Caicedo having really fucked everything else up.

Someone like Orban will therefore be in the £25-35m range.
Someone like David will be in the £50-60m range.
Someone like Vlahovic will be in the £70-90m range.
Someone like Osmihen will be in the £125m+ range.

Those are our options. There are no David like players for cheaper, Utd just paid £64m + £8m for Holjund. David is the same level IMO - so for £55m I think that's the going rate.

He did only turn 23 this year though. Not that I think he'll ever be Kane level, but Kane was 23 before he started hitting proper form for us.

He’s really really good, but the problem is what he’s best at and what sets him apart is his ability to hold the ball and link play deeper and do so while receiving the ball in tight areas. And Ange likes his strikers on the shoulder making runs into the box to scoreor open up space for others (crashing midfielders).

Fantastic player though. Superb spatial awareness and vision for a striker. His xA is much higher than his assist numbers and it really does show when watching him. Has great feet and control. Does have good instincts in the box and is an above average athlete and can press well. Two-footed and can create space for himself to shoot/create 1v1. Inconsistent finisher though, and as I said, he does his best work outside of the penalty area and doesn’t spend a lot of time in the area. So an odd fit.

I've not seen him play but I'm surprised by the reaction, I thought he was meant to be highly rated

Much rather Vlahovic, who's the better player, or Orban, who's got the far higher ceiling. David would be a weird in between where it's a lot of money for a player who's not that young and who doesn't necessarily even walk into our starting XI.

I know it's not exactly the best way to judge a player's quality, but Transfermarkt isn't usually far off the mark when it comes to player values and where they rank in terms of rating. If anyone can suggest more than 1 or two viable alternatives from that list below then shoot. Otherwise at 23 he definitely meets a lot of the criteria we're looking for IMO and there's not many other options out there.

There's not a world where I'd take him over Orban even at the same price.
I find this kind of take very odd. Orban is essentially the new David, who was taking the Belgian league by storm before Lille signed him. He’s made the step up to a tougher league and has continued to get a good goal return.

This talk of penalties skewing his stats is bunkum too imo. You still have to score the penalties, and they still count towards the final result. None of us were whining about Kane’s stats being padded by penalties.

I don’t really watch ligue 1, or the Belgian league. But this guy has been a relatively consistent goal scorer in a relatively successful team. He’s proved himself more than someone like Orban has.

He's 23. There's almost no-one playing in a top league and banging in goals at that level under that age.

Not walking straight into the starting XI is a good thing, we want competition for that No. 9 spot.

I'd also rather go for Vlahovic, but he's going to cost £30-40 more to get him out of Juve. And that's assuming he'd even want to come.

he's clearly held in high regard but not sure this represents the best value for money, maybe if we didn't already have richy.

I get the fact we're allegedly working on number 1 striker and number 3 winger but you would have expected vlahovic to be number 1 available striker surely? unless of course if we know flat out he isn't available.
