Seeing as we have 2 strikers but play a 4-5-1 system, and have no holding player atm so 4-4-2 is a no no, would it be so bad as to play 3-5-2 at city?? can't play any worse than we have lately.

I was thinking about us potentially playing three at the back this season, but I doubt that AVB will want to change to it. Heres what I think it could look like though:

Lloris
Kaboul Caulker Vertonghen
Sandro Parker
Lennon Dembele Bale
Defoe Adebayor

After his performance on Saturday and his dopey strop Defoe really needs to be benched and a midfield of Livermore + Huddlestone would be completely destroyed by City (on current form those two would be destroyed by Crawley Town's midfield).

Lloris
Walker Verts Caulker Naughton
Lennon Sando Dembele Bale
Sigurdson (or Dempsey)
Ade

...for me (assuming, and praying to god, that Sandro and Dembele are fit again).

Mate i am assuming that Sandro and Dembele wont be fit.....obviously otherwise hudd and livermore wouldn't be anywhere near my team.

Could see both systems work, but I prefer a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1.

I don't think AVB would have the confidence to go with it. Would be interesting to see if it could potentially work or if we get smashed into double figures.

Wigan would have been the better time to try, in hindsight.

Agreed, too risky to try it in a big game. I'd actually like to see it played in on Thursday. With a full strength team though we do have the personnel to go 3-5-2.

I'm a big fan of the formation. Juve and Napoli have been using it very well in the recent couple of seasons. As far as Premier League football goes, not too sure. If your wing backs aren't bloody energetic then you will get ripped to pieces at the back and I'm not too confident about Bale's ability to get back. I'd rather Ekotto used in it than Bale but then where would he go?

It must be hard for the centre backs and I do think you'd need 3 smart defenders with good footballing brains to pull it off.

If AVB went into a match against Man City with a totally new formation and we got ripped a new one then the media, fans and even players would have a field day.

With the injuries we have we're gonna get beaten anyway. Trying a totally new formation will just add fuel to the already growing fire.

Fair enough. Although, even if Sandro and Dembele are both out then I still wouldn't have Hudd or Livermore as any more than bench players based on their current form.

If they are both out (and Parker is still out which presumably he will be) then I probably opt for something like...

Lloris
Walker Caulker Gallas Naughton
Lennon Verts Siggurdson Bale
Dempsey
Ade

In the hope that Verts can pull another rabbit out of his hat and turn in quality performances as a defensive midfielder as well as central defender and left back. We all dream of a team of Jan Vertonghens!

Disagree

Harry was critised for only knowing to play one way, AVB was brought in with supposedly little charisma but loads of tactical knowledge, so lets see it, top managers like Murinho,Fergie etc change their tactics for games and even during games, so i don't think Avb would get slaughtered especially as he may have no choice with all the injuries we have and little chance of Sandro or Dembele making it, if Sandro is fit than yes i agree don't change it, i am only suggesting 3-5-2 if we have no holding player.

The press will have a go at AVB anyway, fuck them, we all know what their agenda is and why.

If we are going to get beaten anyway, as you say, lets do it by having a go, and by that play 2 upfront whicm IMO is only possible with a 3-5-2 given we have absolutely no holding players available to play 4-4-2, hey its just a thought..(y)

Considering theyll play 2 strikers, I don't see why we couldn't play 3 cbs. gallas, caulker and verty are a good combination.

The thing is we're playing rubbish atm so need to change things up IMO

This is the problem, not everyone does. Judging by the boos ringing out at the Lane on Saturday alot of Spurs fan believe what is written in the papers will not give AVB the chance he deserves to prove himself.
