Exactly this.
Loans with options to buy seem a smart way for us to bolster the squad immediately while freeing up the transfer budget to be spent on additional players. Also gives us an easy get-out if he doesn't work out.
Don't think the financial outlay will be very different really when you consider that permanent moves are almost always paid in installments.
I'll go along with that - having originally dismissed this signing on account of being opportune rather than thoroughly scouted, it turns out we were linked in the summer (pre José). Happy now to give this one time. This guy is not even officialy announced and you can feel he is already made scapegoat. We as a fans are piece of shit sometimes. Let's support him instead. He is only 21.
Absolutely, but this just seems a way of getting more players in sooner rather than later. And with a try-before-you-buy option.
Because of the 'welcome to Tottenham video' on YouTube?I'm guessing this is done now.
Are you aware Chelsea tried to sign Gedson Fernandes, but could not agree the financial structure of the deal with Benifica.Stealing a player of dirty spammers isnt really something to brag about, it very concerning to the calibre of clubs were fighting against int the market

Hopefully the lack of hype will work in his favour. This is clearly a highly speculative signing - but not one that should be ridiculed just because we have perhaps more pressing and urgent areas of the squad to address. Of course, there is every chance the guy could flop but structuring the deal as we have means that the is relatively little financial risk and potentially very high return. This is the sort of signing (both in terms of player and deal) we should have been making for the past few years and one I suspect that might be replicated more regularly going forward.
