The Goals on Sunday guy believe the ref made the correct call on the Hudd goal, and showed why for a completely different reason to that which anybody has given. Gallas, offside, when the ball was struck, was not interfering with play. Then it hit Baird and deflected in. He was potentially interfering with play from the Baird deflection, but that makes no difference because Baird plays for the other side. He was not interfering when Huddlestone struck the ball, and his potential interference did not begin until after the ball came off Baird. Not offside.

I like this argument. It's certainly better than mine.

My problem with this argument is, what is there to stop a player playing a pass off an opposition defender to an offside team mate?

The offside has to be called from the moment that the first shot/pass/contact was played and not from when the defender gets a touch (unless he has full control of it).

Although, as Danny Blanchflower is reputed to have said, 'If a man is in an offside position and not interfering with play, why isn't he?'

Good quote.

But I do remember quite a few years back a player having been crunched, lying still in the area.
The ball was played through and one of his teammates ran on to the ball to score.

I can't actually remember whether it was disallowed or not but the argument was that he couldn't possibly be interfering with play because he wasn't moving!

If a player is such a good passer that he can angle the ball perfectly to reach his intended target by rebounding it off his opponent in such a fashion, he deserves for that pass to not be ruled offside

Apart from Ronaldinho once, I've yet to see it happen.

Evertons second today was a similar situation, Yakubu was way, way offside and deliberately obstructing the view of the keeper.

I'm glad we didn't have Halsey as ref yesterday.

Blackpool (who have made City look like Dag&Red) have one one offside player, one oneside player. Offside player doesn't touch the cross, doesn't impede a defender, doesn't get in the goalies vision, but does swing for the ball (and miss). Onside player receives the ball and scores. Disallowed for offside. Blackpool have another goal disallowed because Joe Hart fouls DJ Campbell but somehow is awarded a free kick. City have a completely offside, to the extent that a blind rat could see, goal allowed.

Justice? It doesn't exist I'm afraid. What I will take from this, though, is that if Blackpool can do this to City, then when we play them in the second half of the season we're going to shit all over them and then some, and moreso than in this seasons opening game because we'll have VDV this time.

Yeah. I don't think he's had many premier league games though. I think he's still struggling with fitness. I guess months of chemo will do that to you.

Big diffrence. Halsey is the best ref around, Dowd on the other hand is not quite on the same level

Halsey is the best around true.

Another interesting fact (I think), the lino yesterday was I think the lino that gave us the penalty against Chelsea at Wembley. Is that interesting? Fuck knows, but I like the guy.

Jamie Redknapp has just said on Sky Sports that the goal shouldnt have stood because he knows Gallas touched it...

He's just in a foul mood cos his beloved Liverpool are going down :hump:

Also he's probably had to listen to Robbie Fowler all afternoon saying, "brrrr, getting cold here in England aint it Jamie - think I'll head home to Perth where the summer's just starting".

He's so pent up he's probably gonna ruin Luise tonight - lucky @*@@$**!
