InterTim has today ruled out any new signings, not because he doesn't know what Baldini and Great Leader are doing, but because he doesn't believe we need any. If you look at the left-back situation, as an example, one of the problems for AVB was that he let BAE go but clearly didn't feel that Fryers was a suitable back-up - and yet seemed to accept that in the summer. Sherwood knows Fryers from the youth set-up, and had no hesitation in playing him when rose was injured. He has also shown no hesitation in playing Naughton, who he also knows from the youth set-up. Only time will tell if he is right, or if he, too, will resort to playing Verts out of position.
Likewise, with the strike-force. He has Defoe until March, at which point, I presume we will have Coulthirst back. He knows Kane and Coulthirst from the youth set-up, and presumably feels that from March, they will be suitable back-ups to Ade and Soldado.
More interestingly, perhaps, he insists that he has the final say on who to sign, and if Baldini/Great Leader can sign anyone they like over his head but he just won't play them if he doesn't want them. Don't know if this is him getting the parameters established early or just in reference to AVB's hints that players were bought in over his head, maybe a bit of both. One thing is for sure, in the controversy that has rumbled on since BMJ/Comolli, Sherwood has seemingly killed it dead here and now. He decides who to play, he has final say on who to sign, and if that ever changes he just won't play the intruded parties. He can have no excuses - if it ever changes, it ultimately has to be down to him being weak and backing down from this position.
He also asserts that Lewis Holtby definitely has a future at the Lane and he is looking forward to welcoming him back in the summer. No idea yet whether this is just a sound-bite, maybe to keep the price up, or not.
The article does claim that Lamela and Soldado have been shunned by Sherwood, which is not quite how I see it, but...ho hum.

Lionel Messi would be great but zero chance of more signings at Spurs, says Tim Sherwood
TOTTENHAM manager Tim Sherwood claimed that with 10 hours to go there was “zero per cent” chance of him doing any business during this January’s transfer window.

The club had been linked with a number of players such as Dimitar Berbatov and Yevhen Konoplyanka, but Sherwood has told his chairman Daniel Levy to keep his cheque book in his pocket.
“Daniel's asked if I want to strengthen in this area or need any help, but I'm confident with the players we've got,” Sherwood said. “I don't need anyone else, thank you very much.
“There is zero chance of any more signings. I am very relaxed. It's not always the way, just to buy players.

“We need to put things together, like a jigsaw here, and I've got real trust in the players that we've got.
“That said, Lionel Messi would be great, wouldn't he? It would be great if we could get him at the 11th hour. Fans always want to sign strikers, but we signed seven players in the summer - not a lot of teams did that - so we're OK.”
Sherwood’s bullish response was stronger than the politics he hid behind earlier in the window – when all speculation was dismissed as something that Levy and technical director Franco Baldini might be up to.
But having shunned big money signings such as £30m Erik Lamela and £26m Roberto Soldado in his selections so far, Sherwood made it clear in no uncertain terms yesterday that ultimately, he has the say.
“They can bring players in,” he said of Levy and Baldini, “but they won't play. We're in this together. Unless we're all in agreement they don't bring them in, because there's no point because they won't play.”
One player was allowed to leave, however: Lewis Holtby went on loan to Fulham for the remainder of the season.
“Lewis Holtby's certainly one that I sanctioned to leave the club,” Sherwood said. “I think he's got a Tottenham future. I can' see him not playing regular football in the Fulham side and we look forward to welcoming him back in the summer.”
