EURO 2012: ENGLAND V ITALY

  • Vnue: Olympic Stadium, Kiev
  • Date: Sunday, 24 June
  • Kick-off: 19:45 BST
Coverage: BBC One, BBC One HD, BBC Sport website and BBC Radio 5 live

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini will miss Sunday's Euro 2012 quarter-final against England with a thigh injury.

The Juventus centre-back, 27, picked up the injury in Monday's 2-0 group win over Ireland.
He was replaced by club-mate Leonardo Bonucci, who is likely to take his place against England.

"The scan he underwent confirmed it's a strain. He will certainly miss the game on Sunday," team doctor Enrico Castellacci said.
"Obviously in a competition like this you have to try everything to have him back as quickly as possible but we will not take any unnecessary risks with his muscles."
Castellacci dismissed concerns that Chiellini's injury was a recurrence of the problem that had made him doubtful for the tournament.

Of course. Anyone who puts Downing in the team must be having a laugh. ;)

Just seen Hart's interview saying he'd "love to take a penalty". Definitely has the right attitude here, and he scored against Sweden in the U21-Euros a couple of years ago so he has previous.

I have a strong feeling that this game will go to penalties.

“When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east,” said Mirri Maz Duur. “When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. When England win on penalties. Then he will return, and not before.

You are, of course, referring to the Sons of Khal Hodgson. ;)

Really looking forward to this game. Probably the best opposition we could have faced as we are still underdogs but Italy aren't anywhere near as strong as their name suggests. Feel that we can win this game if we don't concede early.

Yeah, I hope it's a good game. I really can't handle another borefest like last night.

I think that Italy will win and they'll create a lot of chances because of their off the ball movement.

England are a very solid defensive unit but they CB's can be exposed by Ballotelli and Cassano's movement. Marchisio and Di Natale too.

Well, I am cooking my roast chicken early so that I can have a few Corona's and JD's and coke to get me in the mood. :)
