With the Maguire deal falling through I'm once again amazed that Moyes isn't all over Dier. He'd be perfect for his defensive set up.

Why is there so much talk of sanchez and tanganga needed to go before we bring another centre back and nothing on dier?

Just find it extremely odd. The guy has 12 months on his contract. Unless the club want to extend it they have to be actively looking to sell him now
I think Ange leaving Dier out of the squad was a not-so-subtle hint that he's not going to get any minutes this season and needs to find a new club if he wants to play football.

Question is, does Dier want to find a new club or has he convinced himself he can force his way back into Ange's thoughts? He's been part of the furniture at Spurs for a long time - he might not be willing to accept that it's all over just yet.

Or he wants an easy 12 months then go for free

Yeah did almost write that in the post, but I think that ultimately hurts Dier more than it helps him. 1 year sat on the bench or out of the squad won't help his chances of getting a good move next summer.

I think he's massively regret it if he decides to do that. Right now he could probably at least get a move to a bottom half club like Wolves or West Ham. Next summer he'd be looking at Championship teams I reckon.

Euros next summer - surely he wants to play to give himself a chance of making the England squad for the tournament? Not sure how much he backs himself to play his way into contention again but he’s got no chance if he can’t even make our match day squad.

Every time Ali Gold has mentioned Dier it's been accompanied by a statement to the effect of, "Dier wants to stay and fight for his place." It certainly comes across as something Ali has heard from someone in the Dier camp. Maybe that changes if Ange makes clear that there aren't many minutes for him this year, but the way I've read the tea leaves is that Sanchez and Tanganga are actively interested in moving to get more/different opportunities, but Dier is interested in staying and fighting for a spot, meaning Dier is the likeliest one to still be here. I think Dier is the least suited of the three for the role, but he may end up being a 4th or 5th choice for a year anyway.

He wouldn't get in that side would he? I don't think he's better than Aguerd, Alvarez or Zouma. Mind you neither is Maguire.

I don’t like the hate for Dier. Ok he hasn’t been our most elite player and has a mistake in him but it feels the fan base always need a scapegoat or two. I remember an interview by Dier responding to the club being called Spursy - and the fact he didn’t like it, he’s always been a top professional and seems a top bloke too. I’m sure this summer or next he will be on his way and it’s a shame that the fan base can’t be a little more respectful and balanced in views. These are our players and this is our club, let’s get behind them

I think it will follow a similar trajectory to Michael Dawson when Poch first arrived here. Loved the club and wanted to hang on but late in the window realised his opportunities were going to be very limited, funnily enough after Dier came in.

I do find it bizarre that he's not looking for a move though. He's 5th choice at the moment, and could well end up being 6th by the end of the window. Micky has also come in first game and played a blinder, he must have seen that.

There's also an argument to play Tanganga and Phillips over him because of their pace, even if they aren't necessarily better defenders.

Maybe he's thinking of sitting out his last year and picking the right club next year when he's got more options but i'd move if I were him. I think Palace, Wolves, Everton would be good fits and I reckon they'd take him.

I know he’s been in the squad relatively recently but just off the top of my head I think he’s behind Maguire, Stones, Walker, Colwill, Dunk, Guehi, Tomori, White and Tarkowski.
So has to move.

Good guy, has been a great servant over the years, however just is not good enough for where we want to be as a club.

Nothing personal, it’s football. We already have, and should have more, better options.

There no need for hate to the guy, but yes we as a club need to move on from him and he needs to move on from us. Best for all involved if he goes elsewhere.

Been ovbious for a while and now with the change in system, contract running down etc, it's time.

He might disagree of course.

Lucky for dier hes not been the top target for scapegoat, emerson and sanchez have had the unfortunate honour by a country mile. Ive not really seen much vitriol towards dier from the stands compared to them, keyboard warriors will be what they are and every player gets that through their socials when they have a bad game these days.

For me dier more became the pin up of our lack of transition the last four years - someone who was fading out at a time of our highest highs under poch and then when it came to looking to push on after that, rather than draft in the new blood, we found ourselves revisiting dier as the heart of our defense.

Not sure if he'll move but it looks like he wont be in line for a starting berth and given our track record of (not) getting rid of players that may as far as he goes for now.

The morons who've been attacking our own need a reality check and get behind anyone who wears OUR badge. Dier has been here a long time (maybe too long) and always given his best. I hope he's in a good place. Either way best wishes to him
