The latest edition of the Money League is out and it makes quite incredible reading for us, it really does. Before we start, this is all based on the 21/22 season (last season).
https://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/pag.../articles/deloitte-football-money-league.html
We are 9th in total, let's focus on our PL rivals:
City €731m
Pool €701.7m
Utd €688.6m
Chelsea €568.3m
Spurs €523m
Arsenal €433.5m
Now on the surface you may be saying, oh wow we're so far behind Chelsea, Utd, Pool etc.
But remember, this is based on the 21/22 season when we had NO CL FOOTBALL. This is key because it means we lost out on matchday revenue from CL games but more importantly we lost out on CL prize money AND broadcasting revenue.
Here is a breakdown of each teams revenue:
City
Matchday €64m
Commercial €373m
Broadcasting €294m
Pool
Matchday €112m
Commercial €275m
Broadcasting €314m
Utd
Matchday €126m
Commercial €309m
Broadcasting €254m
Chelsea
Matchday €82m
Commercial €209m
Broadcasting €277m
Spurs
Matchday €125m
Commercial €215m
Broadcasting €182m
Arsenal
Matchday €94m
Commercial €167m
Broadcasting €172m
Here's where it gets really exciting. This season we ARE in the CL, so you can add 4 high profile CL games to our matchday revenue, that's likely around an extra €20m at least. Then we can look at City, Pool, Utd and Chelsea's broadcasting revenues, they are around €90-100m higher than ours due to CL, which we do have this season.
So based on these numbers, if you add €120m to our total revenue it gives you an idea of where we are now based on the current season. So €523m, plus €120m euros takes us up to €643m, enough to put us just behind Bayern. ABOVE Barca, way beyond Chelsea and closing in on Utd and Pool. But there is potentially more, presumably the prize money for the CL is included in commercial. If that's the case, our commercial revenue would increase too, potentially taking us past Bayern and PSG and right on to the coat tails of Man Utd. Add in a potential naming rights sponsor in the near future and you get a picture of where I'm going with this.
The last thing to consider is I don't know if this revenue based on 21/22 includes the concerts that took place in the summer. They may well come under this season instead.
So basically we are now a financial juggernaut. We have extreme room for growth in our wage bill and with our transfer spending and our commercial growth could go up further because at the moment we're a juggernaut and we haven't even won anything. Success on the pitch would likely lead to us pushing towards the very top of this table.
Forget City, as you can see by their breakdown, they have used commercial revenue to push to the top, utilising their owners.
In summary, we are in a magnificent position financially and if we can sort ourselves out on the pitch and get a cohesive strategy as a club, we could really fly. You can also see why we may be very attractive to QSI.
