Interesting comments on Dele fro Poch yesterday and maybe a hint of why JM doesn’t want him around. Poch described Dele as having a charisma that was similar to Messi or Maradona. Now JM always has to be top dog and wouldn’t like a player to be more charismatic than he is. Kane, Son, Eriksen etc are all pretty dull nice guys and no threat to Mourinho’s ego.
I hope someone comes in for him in January. A waste to see his talent sidelined.

Nah I don't buy that. Ronaldo, and others at Mardid, had big egos and Mourinho had no problem with them.

It's to do with attitude. You can have a big ego but also apply yourself to the maximum.

Honestly Dele remains a very good player - he makes things happen on a football pitch and thats a rare quality - he may be slightly out of form but thats a temporary thing - people say his slow but he sees things that others don't he has a quick football brain. Awful at moving a ball I don't see that at all he creates spaces and more than anything gets into the box and his finishing is still on par with all but one player at Tottenham - his movement is intelligent and you don't score the goals that he has without decent movement

Talk of moving him on is bordering on madness and vastly prematiure he is simply to good a player to move on and one that offers so much more than some of the players that are being talked up beyond him

Seriously?

Dele had the team almost built around him when Mourinho arrived and his performances were no more than okay. He really misses Eriksen but at the same time his game hasn't evolved in a good way, he's become much less of a midfielder and as an attacker the system doesn't fit him.

Would be nice mate but he simply doesn’t fit how we want to play now so can’t see it happening I’m afraid.

I'm not overly confident either but he's still a talent and wouldn't rule it out all together.

But agree he doesn't really fit with how we're set up now.

Yes I have to disagree I'm afraid. Clearly has an issue with his attitude and application within training and has too much going on in his personal life which Jose doesn't like. I'm afraid I just don't see a way back in for him. It's clear he's a talented player but he doesn't have a place in our squad and I would be fine with him leaving.

I'm sorry this is all fantasy from a few seasons ago. Dele is what used to be termed a luxury player, hes not a 10, hes not a wide man, hes not a play maker hes not even a midfielder he plays best as a second striker. My problem with Dele of late is his work rate and output he has been poor to average for about 2 seasons now. The season before Poch went he was played constantly and he was simply poor and he got a free ride from Poch simply because he has the ability to get a goal. He screems of a kid who started to believe his own hype and lost all focus in football.

Yes he may well come back to form, and yes Jose may well find a place for him but all the requires Dele to want to, swallow his pride and get stuck back in there. He has serious ability like you say but so did Keven Prince Boateng, so did Mido, so did Giovani dos Santos, so did Benteleb most of which have publicly stated it was their own fault.

I could have the charisma of Pele, doesn't mean I can play football.

How can a player who has a goal record like his be a luxury player? He is not really a second striker he needs something of a free role hs is best arriving from deep or finding space between the lines. I don't get the work rate thing at all he looks languid but he still offers plenty imo he may not have been in top form but he was still creating chances and moments in games that others don't . The hype thing thats just hyperpbole who knows, he wasn't the only player poor against Everton or the other night . None of those players mentioned did half of much as what Dele has done in Spurs shirt or indeed have the abilty that he has

Just looked it up scored 8 last year pretty respectable and had to play some of that on his own front in a side that was struggling for creativity as Eriksen meandered his way to the end of his Spurs career- and even so that aint for a midfielder

If anything it’s Poch that doesn’t like big ego around. Mourinho loves Zlatan(biggest ego around), couldn’t imagine Poch ever wanting someone like that. Not sure Deles a big ego either tbh. I think he’s someone that has lost a bit of hunger. That could both Pochs and Jose’s fault for using him incorrectly over 2-3 seasons. Hope he gets that bite back but it’s hard to see atm.

Darren Anderton signed for us, had a really tremendous output (especially in a time when wingers weren’t getting the numbers they do now because of the two striker norm) for his first three seasons, 94/95 being exceptional. Then injuries, bad ones, followed by a few pretty low scoring years, then he returned to an acceptable level for the rest of his career.

I loved him. Bet he never got this type of over analysis.
