i think for Dele to succeed with us he may have to adapt his game slightly. He wont have the freedom he once had with us now that we have the players we currently have. He needs to look at becoming one of the 3 in midfield, only time will tell if he succeeds.

Tough road ahead for him, there is now genuine competition for places and currently he is fighting with Clarke for minutes. Needs to bring more to his game to move up the pecking list and that probably means training harder than others and when he gets a chance he needs to absolutely shine. Up to him how he responds.

Looks like he is finally starting to give a shit, but lets face it even if he returns to peak Dele he is not going to get in the first 11 and we havent seen peak Dele for a couple of years.

At the moment he is back up for Lamela, who is back up. Some minutes in the EL and CC, doubt he will play too many minutes. He is too good for that, but we have a cracking squad now. I loved him as a footballer, but even with his little upturn in form last season he hasnt been good enough.

In my eyes talent wise at the moment he is on par with Lucas and Lamela (he has potential to be better), but those two will bust a gut every time they step on to the pitch and show passion for the club, Dele does not, or at least not on a consistent basis.

Unless we get an injury to Son, I cant see him breaking in to the first team.

Doesn’t sound like Mourinho is impressed to me. But not sure I believe him 100% here either. There is so many famous instances of Mourinho doing things to provoke a player into performing for him. But I guess maybe he’s saying he’s done all that and now it is down to the player to do it for himself.

José Mourinho on #thfc midfielder Dele: "It is about him, not about me. People used to say the coach has to motivate but I don't agree. We are external motivation but if the player is not the motivation we cannot do much. The level is also so high to get minutes."

What's worrying is that he was saying that in the Amazon documentary, so if Dele hasn't bucked his ideas up since then, I can't see him lasting long at Spurs.

I really hope so.

But there’s a tiny, nagging doubt and I hesitate to mention it because I’m worried I’m chasing phantoms.

Am I alone in thinking that he looked really petulant and almost mutinous when he was stripping off to come on? I hope I’m just projecting, but he didn’t look as if he wanted to be there. Is it just me?
Was just looking back through the thread to see if anyone mentioned the condescending glance he gave Jose as he was coming on. My Dad noticed it and so did I, we weren't watching it together. Certainly looked like a 'you prick' glance before running on imo.

If that's the case then I can't see him lasting long here.. AFAICS Jose expects respect from his players along with discipline

Jose has basically said to all the players that they have to earn their shirts on the training pitch. Ndombele has clearly trained better than Dele. Dele will know what he needs to do, and it is not an overnight thing, could take weeks or months. Plus with such a big squad, someone will always be in a Jose psychological experiment to keep everyone on their toes.
