I would be even more surprised about buying him now than last summer.

I just can’t think of a modern precedent for us doing this kind of deal. Even putting aside the Chelsea rivalry (which I agree is arguably less relevant under the new owners), when was the last time we did a deal like this with another traditional top six club? We mostly always buy players from teams outside of the big six because we’re looking for value.

Adebayor was maybe the exception but I don’t think he was part of the Man C first team anymore.

There’s always the possibility Chelsea sell him relatively cheaply to us out of FFP desperation but it still seems a long shot to me: Chelsea coming down to a price Levy deems acceptable and him actually wanting to join. We’re also pretty stacked in CM which would probably make Levy even more reluctant to sanction a potentially expensive deal.

I hope I’m wrong because I think he could be a great addition but I just can’t see it right now.

In a vacuum I’d be fine with it - he’s talented and I think Ange could unlock more. But it’s so far down our lost of priorities for me right now. If everyone is fit Sarr is the best reserve we have. I’d rather a really top forward and a good 3rd centre half first for absolute certain, then maybe a midfielder who can play multiple positions

I don't think he's available anymore, if he ever was.

At the beginning of the season he appeared out of favour with rumours of Chelsea needing to sell.

He's now playing every game, is club captain and in the England squad.

With Bissouma, Bentancur and Sarr, we're likely looking for a 4th choice centre mid anyway, this isn't Gallagher.

Everything has fallen perfectly into place for our bid. We bided our time and the stars have duly aligned. Exquisite.

The reporting in the summer was that Poch loves him and wants him in the team, but the board are really keen to sell any academy players they can get good money for. They need to try to redress some of their transfer excesses of the last 12 months, and selling academy graduates is pure profit for them.

I still think they would be open to a decent offer for him.

I really don't think they would. He's a 23 year old, English first teamer, who's playing really well and who seems like he has a fantastic attitude. You'd either have to be mad or desperate for cash to sell that kind of player.

I'll say this though: with the benefit of hindsight, it's yet another player that the scouting group have been spot on about. The improvement in our recruiting has changed immeasurably.

the thing is, they need to sell him, I don't think they want to, but he is 40-50mil of pure profit in the eyes of FFP. With that being said, if they want to bring in a striker in January, he would definitely be the one to go.

1 Chelsea fans view on The Shed End - this is from the match thread ahead of the game against us:

"
I will never watch Chelsea again if I see Gallagher and Sterling in the starting line up again. If the whole squad is fit, then they shouldn't be starting.

Sometimes they play Gallagher as the second DM, he exposes the defenders and we concede goals, yet the defenders are not permitted to come out and complain, but people will keep complaining about their star players like Enzo and Caicedo, they say they don't justify their price tag.

Gallagher doesn't have the quality that the team needs. Offensively he is not the best, he can't give good passes to the forward players, defensively he exposes the team, why is he playing?

If the team is fit for now, this is what we should have, if I don't get it, I don't watch Chelsea's games. If we have the right team, even if we lose, we are ok."

Most seem to love him this season, says Poch has done well to get the best out of him. Weird comment on him and Sterling tbh. Both have not been amongst their worst performers

I think part of the temptation to sell Gallagher and other academy players for decent money is because the transfer fee will be 100% profit. Probably part of the reason City sold Palmer, I think i'm right in saying it helps with their FFP quite a bit.

keeps getting rumored by dodgy reporters. just can't see this being a feasible option, let alone a Winter transfer. he is Chelsea's captain, a regular presence in the starting XI and one of their most consistent performers. why would they sell him? to us of all clubs? as much as I'd love this to go through, can't see it happening.

It’s the owners that want to sell him not the football people at the club. Boehly’s incompetence is why it has a chance. They sustain FFP by selling homegrown players for big fees. It’s pure profit on the sheets. That being said I’d still class this as unlikely. DiMarzio the fella who reported it today’s credentials are hard to nail nowadays as well. He used to be rock solid but has been shaky recently.

The theory is they are better off selling homegrown players to meet FFP as whatever they sell him for, is pure profit.

He has 18 months left on his contract so if they decide they need to sell then his price will decrease over the next 12 months.

If we're the best offer, they might decide to take it.

I don't think it'll happen but it's certainly possible.

I’m praying that this is true. Solely because the next Pochettino press conference would be very, very entertaining.
