It wasn't great. But it also doesn't define our season negatively "people who think we can challenge the league are delusional".

We don't play Chelsea away (our hardest fixture) every week and I can almost guarantee we won't have many more games like that.

Liverpool just went to Fulham and were lucky to come away with a point. Are they delusional thinking they could still win the title?

Liverpool and us are in different places though, they challenge for the title every season. You can’t have watched us today and come away thinking yeah we look like title challengers?!

That was never a red card, he was always looking away from the player and not intentional
Looking away doesn’t mean it was unintentional. You can have positional awareness of what is around you without looking directly at it, all the moreso if you’re an elite athlete. Romero was incensed at the time it happened, he certainly thought there was something in it.

I don’t think it’s controversial or overly negative to moan about todays performance. It was terrible. Saying it wasn’t great is like you are saying it was an average performance when it clearly wasn’t. You can celebrate the point and the attitude and still be honest about what you’ve seen from our players performance wise today. We have different opinions about today that’s all.

Absolutely. I've celebrated today's draw like it was a win and am absolutely over the moon, but still a little concerned at the performance too. I don't mind playing shit on occasion like today but this particular type of performance, where we are overrun in midfield or unable to involve our front three and WB's at all has crept up a few times. It's the only real concern I have with this group of players. With everything else I feel we are absolutely heading in the right direction.

Great point in the end, a very poor performance however. Just couldn’t get a foothold. I feel just dropping Deki in on Jorginho would have stopped them from dictating the game. Move Son up top beside Kane.

Great point, but we were completely outplayed by them for most of the game. Need to address a good few issues in that starting XI...
While true we were completely outplayed they only managed 3 shots on target so we were doing something right defensively and as we had more shots on target(5) than them when we got the chance we were more dangerous than them. As I said earlier performances don’t get you points only results do and despite being outplayed we dug out a result in place that has the hex on us. Ultimately at the end of the game we would have been the happier dressing room.

You've just fully missed my point. I said we didn't play well. I also said its our hardest game of the season and we won't play like that many more times this season.

very rarely, if ever? It’s like a complete mental block whenever we step foot in the stadium. I was hoping that today that mentality would change but let’s be honest we should be walking away with nil points which is what our performance deserved.
It's a dinosaur thing to say, totally pointless meaningless drivel from sourness. He needs to be pensioned off.
Are you for real or a bot ????

I really hope today’s game will exorcise some of the smugness and complacency that has crept up on us over the past few weeks. Misguided - we aren't the finished article yet.

And I hope we can bring in a few real first team reinforcements. Filling out the squad is all well and good but there are quite a few players in our starting line-up who are upgradable I'd say. The bar needs to be raised further still.

Because the City manager is so arrogant he plays to our strengths and thinks his team will prevail through more skill and better players, whereas Tuchel sets up Chelsea to play on our weakness and has given the rest of the league the blueprint in how to play against us. Arteta is just as arrogant fortunately too and Klopp.
When you have won that many trophies, you aren't "arrogant". Wrong word entirely.

Same applies to Conte for the same reason.

A few weeks ago our squad was better than theirs. This American dick just opened up his wads and threw them on the table. No skill was used in determination of targets. Just buy buy buy.We cannot compete with that shitty approach

Some of the posts in here at half time were just absolutely shocking. Tuchel set up his team brilliantly to nullify us. Our game plan is obvious and Tuchel (unlike Pep and Klopp) is willing to adapt his game plan to shut us down. The good news is that few teams have the ability to set up like Chelsea did today. Reece James was the best player on the pitch by a mile and he was able to both shut down Son and overload Sess. Jorginho and Kante were incredible for the first 60 mins and we couldn't get close to them with our tactical set up. Thiago Silva and Koulibaly were both so good at coming through the back of Kane and Deki without getting called for it. Despite how well Chelsea played and Tuchel's spot on tactics, the only goal we gave up before the tactical switch was an absolute screamer from a CB on a corner. 9/10 times Koulibaly misses that shot. We were too sloppy when we had the chance to break, but frankly Chelsea's press was well-executed and sufficating. There was just no margin for error and we kept hitting slightly errant balls or taking too long.

The better news is that Conte was willing to change things up AND we had depth on the bench to make those changes. Once Richie came on the game opened up for both sides. Mendy ended up making as many good saves as Lloris did. We probably got lucky with the no-call on the Bentancur tackle (though I think they got lucky with the no call against Deki on their goal), and Romero could have cost us with the stupid hair tug (though I thoroughly stand by the assertion that hair that long is asking to be pulled ...).

So far this season we have played two teams that had our number tactically last year. Hasenhuttl and Tuchel both out thought Conte last year. Chelsea beat us 4 times and we got a draw and a loss against Soton. We're 4 points better off than last year already. Sure the first half was frustrating, but I personally see real progress from last year. We had a real plan B today - in the recent past we've barely had a plan A. Too many folks on here yell too much about Conte not starting our fancy new toys and trying to blame certain scapegoats for a bad tactical set up.

We were woeful that first half - and I am sure Conte thought the same.

Why? We could not pass, we lost 50 50s or second balls, we couldnt press, our second touch was a tackle which we subsequently lost, we lost the duels. Someone backs into you? you back into them and bully them, 9 times out of 10 that doesnt go in? yes but it did, 9 times out of 10, Romero would get sent off but he did not.

I agree that Chelsea were brilliant today in my view and if we played like that we would be lauding it. We were lucky we got that draw and im not complaining because they have had their fair share of decisions in the past. Richarlison was offside and Romero should have been sent off and a free kick given, no corner and game over. We showed great character and resilience which I thoroughly loved.

I agree with you about the fancy toys bit, and said as much last week. People want to see our new players so quickly when our current crop hadnt done too much wrong carrying over from end of last season (although Perisic is th eonly one I would have stated). Today those new toys were needed at half time.

Yes I know what you are saying but really didn’t look to me like it was one of those where a player leaves a nasty bit extra on a challenge.
