The supporter was spotted aiming the salute at Spurs fans during the London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2023. He has now been convicted of a racially aggravated public order offence at Thames Magistrates Court and banned from attending matches for three years, Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Has David Baddiel commented yet or is he still conveniently ignoring his own fans racist fan base?

I do have some sympathy for him. As a celebrity Jew and lifelong Chelsea supporter it must put him in a difficult position, on many occasions

Unfortunately with him you get the feeling that “One doth protest too much, me thinks!”

I would have sympathy except every now and then he’ll come out to condemn spurs fans for using the y word, yet blatantly ignores the issues of his own fanbase,

David Baddiel speaks out against Chelsea fans behaviour quite a lot.

Maybe it’s time we stopped telling this lie.
Interesting as I did google to try and search to see if he had spoken out and didn’t get any results.

But I‘m not posh and don’t have a membership with the guardian lol 😜😜

You don’t need a membership with the Guardian. I remember there was an article by him a few years ago where he said he’s changed stands at Stamford Bridge because of their behaviour.

The idea that he doesn’t speak out against them is a pure lie.

Okay fair enough, no need to be so harsh throwing around all the pure lie accusations though. 😉😉

The lie accusation wasn’t aimed at you.

But people accusing him of not saying anything against Chelsea when he clearly has and does is a lie, even if it’s through ignorance and lack of research rather than knowing they’re lying.

Reading that article it's still much more about the use of the Y word than the other overt anti-semitic chanting from Chelsea fans.

Definitely has a feel of 'it's their fault in the first place'.

I dunno...maybe I just really don't like him.

“Comedian and author David Baddiel agrees. 'Literally every week there is some anti-Semitic chanting at Stamford Bridge. It often takes place regardless of whether Tottenham are playing or not. It's even happened to me.”

He does focus on the Y word but that is his campaign and focus. He clearly doesn’t absolve Chelsea fans of being guilty of this.

I wouldn't say every now and then. I'd say it's absolutely at the core of his agenda, which (speaking as a Jewish person) I find entirely hypocritical.

The fact that he moved from one part of the stadium to another isn't going to change the behaviour within the stadium as a whole, is it?

Of course not. Who said it would?

The point was he acknowledged appalling behaviour by Chelsea fans got to such an extent that as a season ticket holder he changed the area he sits in.

Yet somehow many posters think he doesn't talk about racist or anti-semitic behaviour by Chelsea fans when he clearly does.

I think as Spurs supporters we listen/hear people calling for us to stop chanting ‘Yids’ much more than when they speak out about the antisemitism

We are so ‘proud’ and wear the terms we chant as such a badge of honour that sometimes we forget the other side of the coin

It’s a very very complicated issue but at its root I guess it’s like using the N word. “We can use it but you can’t”
