I don't really understand how it's any worse than a goalkeeper waiting for an attacking player to get within a couple of yards of them before picking the ball up to run the clock down, something which we see 2 or 3 times a weekend.

What grounds does he have to book the player?

unsportsmanlike behaviour I assume but really he was time wasting to ensure no comeback from the opposition

What a lot of nonsense. The ball was in play so there can be no time wasting defence, and the line between showboating and unsportsmanlike conduct is so subjective as to be entirely unenforceable. What next, bookings for nutmegs? This ref would have booked Lamela for his rabona as 'too flash'. And dont even think about trying a Panenka; three match ban.

True. Hamburg still have not got back up. And the second division, much like the championship is very competitive. It will not be easy and I cannot see Schalke surviving. They are rock bottom with 9 points and 9 points from a playoff position.
