Let me begin by saying I liked Harry Redknapp and I think he did a great job for us for the majority of his time here but a real bug bear of mine was that he never felt like part of the Spurs family. He would always refer to the club as 'Tottenham' it was very rare that he used the term 'we' when talking about the club. It sometimes felt like listening to a pundit talking about us instead of our own manager talking about the club. We also heard a lot about the differences between the board and Harry. There always seemed to me to be a crack in the relationship between Spurs and Harry - in my eyes he was never a 'Yiddo' despite the success we had.

After hearing our new head coach for the first time today things already feel different. AVB seemed so comfortable and relaxed talking to the media today and talking about the future of the club. It almost felt like he had already integrated himself into the fabric of the club - it was always what 'we' are aiming for what 'we' are doing. When answering questions about Luka Modric he did so with an air of authority and familiarity despite the fact he has never worked with him yet. Also on his interview on the OS, AVB spoke about the warmth he felt at the club - "The club is very solid in the way they support the first team, there is much more emotional warmth in this club, and this is important". Now I know its very early days but I really think AVB and Tottenham could be the perfect fit, he really seems at home here and I hope he becomes a true 'Yiddo'

Good post, I totally agree. I liked Harry and think he did a pretty good job, but it always seemed like a temporary solution, that he was just supposed to do well enough that we could bring in a top-class manager to replace him when he left or retired, and then depending on how that worked out we would either build on that or have to sell off our best players, not attract adequate replacements, and languish. Our second half season collapse and Chelsea's CL win pointed to Modric and Bale leaving and us languishing, but the Villas-Boas appointment and positive transfer activity has really seemed to turn things around.

Obviously we haven't even played a preseason game yet, but AVB is doing all the right things so far and looks like a fantastic choice. Who would have thought everyone would be feeling this good about Spurs after the CL final? Amazing turnaround.

Isn't it just.

Things seem really postive at the club. New manager (sorry head coach). New training ground. Postive early transfer activity.

All I have to say is - "AVBs blue and white army"

He's looking for love after Chelsea and he's chosen one of the few clubs successful clubs
in the Premiership that can offer it to him.
We may be notoriously 'fickle' as fans but we will give him a chance.

Enjoy it while you can Andres you have two matches before we turn on you and tear your legs and arms off.
Only joking, it will be at least three.

was refreshing to here him talk like a manager of a club, already showing responsibilty

harry would have just said I dont get involved in any of this, 'Chairman will handle modric, i hope he stays but its down to the chairman, i dont get involved in that

Yes I hope the chairman can sort out a few more signings before the start of the season, i dont get involved in any of that, chairman gets the players

oh it will be ever so hard to get 4th this season, liverpool will be strong as they always are, chelsea..arsenal, no one will ever beat the manchester clubs, but we'll have a go'

'we did ever so well finishing above liverpool and chelsea, when was the last time tottenham did that before i came here'

 oh harry

That's all great but can we put to bed the complete bollocks that Redknapp didn't say 'we' or 'us' in interviews, he said it all the bloody time. There was a lot wrong with the way he conducted himself but we don't need to make up crap.

A quick search of BBC, could have picked any of the links but you get the point.

And I'm pretty sure AVB may have referred to us as 'Tottenham' over the past few days, we should probably sack him now before he starts talking in the third person, it's a slippery slope.

Who said he didn't say it - I think the bone of contention is that it took him a long time to get to that point - are your clips time-coded?
Also, he was very inconsistent in his usage. The suspicion would be that when he was taking credit it was us and we, and when he was distancing, passing-the-buck, or self-publicising, it was they and them.
Now, I can't prove that, or rather, I could see if it correlates over a significant period of time, but I really can't be assed (y)

And neither can i, we have reached an impasse. SC would be a far better place if all disagreements ended like this. It's been a pleasure.

I believe if you read my original post I said rarely - not never - rarely, and SP is right it took him a long time. I think however you have missed the point. It was not too slate Harry it was merely to give my opinion of how comfortable AVB is seeming at Spurs...

Harry also talked of watching blanchflower etc... when he was a schoolboy with the club.
He also sent his son to play for us as a schoolboy.
He knows far more about our club than avb.
