I'm not happy we lost, but I'm I'm not exactly a fan of the way the FA run the game in general, which feeds into the national set up. The "we invented the bloody game" old-school mind set has done nothing but stagnate our progress, in my opinion. We have the most dynamic league in the world, and while it runs under the umbrella of the FA, it's not run by them, so their myopic viewpoint doesn't get in the way! There are far more well informed people who have written about, and analyzed this subject, so I'll leave the details to them (will find some links to relevant articles), but I can't see too much progress until the way the English game is governed changes. Every sportsman wants to represent their country, and I know our players are very well paid, but it must be frustrating for them, too?

Yes. I have felt this way about England for a while, partly because I also support Portugal and so have another team (who can play entertaining football) to fall back on but also because it would take England to lose for anyone to actually think to make a change for the future.

England has always relied on blood and guts with the odd class act (Gazza) to get through tournaments. Now people may start wising up to the fact that players who are comfortable on the ball and possess good technique are what's need to win tournaments, why its taking this long when Brazil have been proving that for decades I don't know.
