Well, that would blow the theory some had in the Spence thread last night that himself and Emerson were probably good enough.

I'm not so sure about this article anyway. No direct quotes from anyone.

I'm leaning towards...KLAXON...Bullshit.

I wouldn't be surprised to be honest, Spence or not it's obvious RWB is an area that the recruitment department are looking at and that means at least one of Doherty/Emerson has to go

Wouldn’t surprise me, especially if we sign an attacking wing back. Sell Doc while he still has value, keep Emerson for the tighter games.

Maybe we're looking for Spence plus someone like Maehle and Doc and Royal can go

Absolutely sell if theres a buyer wanting to give us our money back and more. Peoples opinions have been swayed by a couple of performances against Leeds and Everton who were two of the worst teams in the league last season. He is definitely one player that can be improved upon and if we do have ambitions of going for titles then we should be doing deals like this.

I feel like Doherty has been a bit underwhelming most of his time here.

He did put in some very good performances at the end of last season before his injury. I'd hoped this was him fitting into the team and doing what Conte required of him.

I remain on the fence with him but believe he'll be our first choice rwb this season.

If true I hope we have a couple of RWB to replace otherwise it could be another situation where we let players Walker Peters and Trippier go without suitable replacements. It's been our problem position for a few years and personally would have thought it would have been the first position filled.

His best performances last season were born out of discipline and commitment. Playing exactly the way he was asked to by Conte. He did well, but he is getting older and does not have the ability to do anything special with the ball. I get the feeling that Conte could get those performances out of most of the Premier leagues RWB's given time. It just depends on the players attitude and fitness.

So, if Conte says we could sell, who are any of us to argue? I think Emersons trajectory is still going upwards anyway, he has a lot more to show for us and spent all last season adjusting to a new league in a new country.

I think Conte has the full backing of the fans. The question is more if this story is true.

I've seen little to suggest this is a true link. If we were selling, we'd surely be looking at a 1st team, ready-made player. I've read nothing of the sort.

Yea this makes a lot of sense actually.

Do we have a player thread for Doherty? ??

It was interesting than both Doherty and Emerson showed much much improved form in the RWB role towards the end of last season.

Doherty knows better how to play the role, slightly better more intelligent delivery ? and a bit more of goal and assist threat, however he is 30 hrs old and not as strong defensively.

Emerson on the other hand is more athletically suited to the RWB role, is younger, has more sell on value, is stronger defensively and has more potential to improve.

If the choice was purely about when both are fit who is a better player in the RWB right now going into next season then it’s Matthew DOC HER TEY all the way, however in terms of the whole puzzle I could see Emerson staying and think that say we were in a big match tight in the Champions League id feel more comfortable if se had Emerson playing RWB rather than Doherty.

Against mid to lower level PL sides Doherty is a better option to exploit them defensively.

Ultimately it all depends on the level and type of RWB we are looking to bring in but there could actually be more to this than we think.

I hope this isn’t accurate. He completely turned around my opinion of him in last few matches before he was injured. I could actually see why we got him and what he could bring. Goals, assists and runs into the box. He was the most effective of all of them.

Just read that the Standard are saying Matt can leave, also Emerson. Haven't read the original article but surely we need both these players.

Possibly another new RWB in the works then? Unless Conte wants to fully convert Lucas to RWB?
I think Spence will be a success but a bit risky starting the season with only him and Emerson as options?
