The credits may be rolling on Antonio Conte's time as Tottenham Hotspur manager but it is clear the Italian will be going down swinging and taking a few others with him.

Conte's incendiary post-match inquest after Spurs cast aside a 3-1 lead to draw at struggling Southampton saw all the frustrations and discontent that have been simmering beneath the surface explode in public.

It’s hard to argue with some of his points but to blurt out like that in a presser?

lost a lot of respect for him on that one

Fair play to AC. Never a truer word said about our miserable owners.

But I don’t agree with him calling out the players as selfish. I don’t think they are selfish but some of them are just not very good or are long past their sell by date.

He’s got some nerve. Always insists on starting players out of form, despite having other options. Sends other players out on loan that he hasn’t even given a chance, just because they weren’t ‘his’ players. Can’t motivate his team to play football in the first half of just about every game this season. Still doesn’t know how to get the most out of his side, because his system is too rigid and he refuses to change it.

Conte clearly needs help. He is lashing out under stress and needs som e real counselling and time away from pressures

About time someone came out with some good old honest home truths about the club, its been a long time coming!!, would love to see Levy doing some press conferences explaining where we are and where we are going. If he sacks Conte now a new manager will want a few windows to build his team, fail to get backed, the roundabout starts again. Nothing will change under Enic/Levy.

The only reason he hasn’t been sacked is because it’s cheaper to let his contract run out. He’s literally asking to be fired.

To say we’ve had no success, we were in the champions league final a few seasons ago.

Conte picks the team and makes the subs. He needs to also take responsibility for this and I think he does.
It’s about time someone called out the owners and if anything this is the impact Conte will leave at the club. Future potential managers will think twice about taking the role and I can’t see us attracting another “big name” manager. Poch might come and he will be in the same situation. The only way forward now is to sell up and let an ownership with a hunger for trophies make us a great club again.

This whole AC saga is an odd one.

He is spot on with many of his comments regarding investment, strategy, the 'project', etc. which many fans agree with. But then he throws in the comments about the players and in some cases names and shames, which isn't good for that player or the squad.

I'm addition, he never takes any of the blame. As mentioned above, he picks the team, makes the decisions on subs, etc. but not once has he said 'I made the wrong decision on X' or 'I probably should have changed things earlier', etc.

And in addition, he also had a go at the fans recently. It's everyone else to blame but himself.

I'm in agreement that if it wasn't for the compo he'd be owed, he'd have been sacked by now.

Success means titles. Big clubs win trophies, simple as that.

Basically he thinks he is above us and is acting accordingly.

Conte has been a problem since day one. Almost immediately he was making excuses. First bump in the road, he talks about 'maybe not being right for the job'. IMO, he's largely responsible for going backwards. He's up and down constantly. It must be very confusing for the players. He bangs on about not having the resources etc. He's spent a ton of money. Brighton have much less resources than us, yet could finish above us. Any decent manager would get better from our group of players than he has. He's the one being selfish.

That’s true, but he was saying this is as good as it gets, regardless who the manager is, but we’ve played much better football and had much better seasons, than we have under Conte.

I do agree that Enic have underinvested in the first team since they have owned the club.

This is why there's so much benefit to having a team identity (style of play, system etc.) with only managers who fit in with that recruited. You can then change the manager without needing to completely rebuild the squad. Having a director of football who also fits in with that also helps, because if either the DoF or manager changes, the other retains the consistency of approach.

Although AVB wasn't the right fit for our club, I think he was attempting to implement broadly the same system as Poch...but was less effective in doing so. This meant that quite a few of AVB's signings (Lloris, Vertonghen, Lamela, Eriksen) fitted the next manager's system.

A new keeper and CB are going to be high priorities in the summer, irrespective of who our manager is.
We have some quality forwards who really don't need to be completely overhauled for any system. Moura is leaving, so needs to be replaced if the manager utilises a RWF.
We have some decent CMs who are probably all more suited to playing in a 3 than a CM 2. A new manager implementing a CM 3 would most likely want a new CAM or an out-and-out CDM to sit behind two of our existing CMs.
With Porro, Emerson, Davies, Perisic, Sessegnon, Udogie & Reguilon on the books, a new manager could retain whichever of those are most suited to their system (fullbacks or wingbacks).
That's only 3 key signings (all of which we need this summer irrespective of manager), and potentially a back-up RWF, to give a new manager (or Conte) sufficient backing. I'd say that's very achievable in one summer window, so doesn't need a new "project". It would then be a matter of keeping the squad fresh each season (rather than allowing it to stagnate like happened in 2018).

Conte does not take responsibility. He blames everybody but himself. He has decided which players to keep, which players to buy and which to loan out. He coaches the team. He Is supposed to fire up the players. He has let Spurs down badly, will not be clear over his future and regularly rubbishes our team in press conferences. I amazed that so many people on here think he is so great. I read an article that said he has been gaslighting Levy and the club. He has been. We need to rid ourselves of him and the dodgy Paratici.
What we need at Spurs is a manager who is committed to the the club long term and who respects the club. Conte does not fit the bill.

I suspect now the players have lost all respect for Conte. How do you take a boss that can’t control his emotions or mouth. You just laugh at them, ignore them as much as possible and get on with your job. Making a u turn saying he didn’t mean what he said just sums him up
