Exactly and Townsend thinks he's good enough to start every game and he's not ready for that at a top 4/5 club. So he has to wait his chance, leave or go on loan to a premiership team for an entire season.

I really rate Townsend but he deserves a chance to play so this is a tough one. I'd prefer a loan to a mid-table club to selling him outright. He must be getting tired of being loaned out, I imagine. It's hard having so many good players!

If we want Lamela and others then we need to raise some cash, if Townsend isn't going to play much we need to cash in while his stock is high

Do you really think Townsend is going to develop into a starting XI RW for a top 4 side? I don't. I can't see him developing into something that will beat out the Erik Lamela's and Kevin de Bryune's of the world who are young players themselves.

I disagree, brother. Why wouldn't he make the bench? It's not like we're abundant with options on the right flank. If Lamela isn't signed (as is my suspicion), we're definitely going to need both Lennon and Townsend.

Except Townsend has already said he doesn't want to be a backup. He'd rather go to another middle club permanently (he doesn't want anymore loans either) than be a backup here.

Lets be pragmatic.... if Lamela comes + Willian, I think Townsend will go...... and I think he is actively looking for clubs himself TBH.

I hope he stays but that is the reality. I would not complain if we sold him for EUR 10M + Ade EUR 8M to finance Lamela deal. We top up the EUR 12M and Bale stays.....
