At least he admitted he was wrong, unlike the cretinous officials in charge against Sunderland.

I don't think he had an awful lot of choice. Raises a lot of points for the next FIFA president:

- Why aren't players who simulate injury like that punished?
- Should video technology be brought in to maintain the integrity of the game?

Because the ref at Sunderland had a lot of choice after the event? The whole world and their dog knew that call was wrong. But has he come out and said anything? No. Frankly he deserves to languish in the lower leagues.

Wasn't really defending Foy, more commenting on the Dutch Ref. It's easier to admit a mistake in a red card than a disallowed goal, though.

That said, I imagine Mike Riley had a lot of say in the matter to keep quite over Jan's goal.

What happened at Sunderland

O'Shea brought down Falcao in the box denying a goalscoring opportunity. Ref sent Wes Brown off by mistake (they were close together). Despite constant protesting by O'Shea, admitting he committed the foul, the ref wouldn't have any of it. O'Shea took his armband off and everything, didn't even dispute the call, just tried to get the ref to realise his mistake. Ref even spoke to the 4th official on the mic for a bit and it seemed like he'd change his mind but still stuck with it.

Do the rules not state that if you lung in dangerously with intent you should get a red card? Doesn't matter if you make contact or not. If it happens the ref is well within his rights to send the player off. I can't watch the video by the way, so guessing a bit about the context of the incident.

Why is the continent's TV coverage so much more vivid, so much more dramatic, and so much more visually pleasing compared to the mostly drab Premier League broadcasts?

Same reason why the pundits said Rooney was right to be given penalty the other week, even though there was no contact.
It's the context of the challenge.

Kinda a bad challenge in the first place, studs up reasonably high, but he hasn't touched the player.

The player rolling around like he'd been shot done a good job getting him sent off.
