More games today including two big ones will be a real test. I’m surprised they didn’t put the Merseyside derby on a different day to our game.
The problem is you can’t record games like on Sky as they assume no one works
Extended highlights are available shortly after the game finishes. You can watch the entire match from midnight. All options are still available now.
Interesting. So overall went very well, this is a communication our company ( Virgin Media) got on how it went, one for you techies out there
1 . Traffic - The 6 game event last night included 5 teams in top 6. It added a net 5 Terabits or 50% to our base peak traffic load between 8-10pm. This equated to 600K concurrent customers vs 350K on Tuesday. We had forecast 6 Terabits vs Amazon's 9. There were no gaming updates this time. Substitution was observed on Netflix with ~20% reduction in Netflix traffic during the games
2. Network - performance with internet peers and in the Core was good bar Amazon incorrectly driving some of our traffic to Europe and back into UK. The access network showed increased congestion from Tuesday rising from 5 to 8% of total VM customers, concentrated in ~ 1/3 of the network. Liverpool had the highest. The impact of this congestion is mainly a degradation in picture quality and format e.g. HD to SD
3. Customer experience - Amazon saw no major issues with our customer base and viewed it as big success. Our 10K customer Broadband test panel showed speeds reduced by ~ 8-15% during the event with the higher impact to top tiers. Amazon have still to give us bitrate information for last night but our estimate is 10% Ultra HD, 80% HD, 10% SD based on Tuesday's data. NB On both Tuesday and Wednesday in shared Amazon War Room BT have been called out by Amazon for significant problems affecting customer experience
Interesting.
Some traffic going via Europe and BT basically being shit explains the issues some people were having I guess.
Should remember that this is their first crack at it, the functionality you want is relatively simple to implement and I'd imagine will be implemented if they go big into PL football in the future. It’s not really the same though. It’s rare that I’ll be able to settle down to watch an evening game in real time if it kicks off before 8pm. It’s just very handy be able to watch a match if you miss kick off. Even if I’m 20m late, with some fast forwarding on stoppages etc I can be back to live by HT.

It'll require law changes before that happens. It's about time every game is watchable in this country anyway to be honest.
One of two things will surely happen eventually. Either the 3pm blackout law is repealed or the PL move all games away from that time slot. It'll require law changes before that happens.
No reason why there won't be a greater choice available though.
Eventually you are probably right. One of two things will surely happen eventually. Either the 3pm blackout law is repealed or the PL move all games away from that time slot.
Well we know it won't happen before the current rights period expires in 2022, and I think you're right and we won't see much change in the next period (2022-25) either.Eventually you are probably right.
Soon? Im not so sure.
I look forward to all the "why is my Amazon buffering?!", "this is a perfect stream" juxtapositionsLiverpool 16 Dec and Fulham 30 Dec on Amazon
