Everyone knows Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy loves a deadline day deal...
The bespectacled businessman positively prides himself on his brinkmanship and rare ability to blink last. Levy is also renowned for squeezing every last penny from clubs interested in purchasing even Spurs most notable flops (cough*Dos Santos*cough).
This year, as well as waiting to the last possible minute before bidding for everyone of the club's desired transfer targets, Levy is likely to have his work cut out as he looks to ship-out these six Tottenham flops before Thursday night's deadline...
Heurelho Gomes
Once the love of Tottenham fans' lives, the first conclusive evidence that Gomes is still alive came in Spurs' FA Cup defeat at Elland Road on Sunday, when the Brazilian was included in the match-day squad for the first time in nearly a year.
Although Carlo Cudicini left North London for MLS this month, Gomes' prospects remain bleak, with France international Hugo Lloris and the evergreen Brad Friedel still on Tottenham's books. Spurs are desperate to find a taker for the eccentric former Brazil international in his homeland before the deadline, while there have been enquiries from two unnamed Premier League clubs.
Tom Huddlestone
The turning circle of an oil tanker, the passing precision of a F1 car, Tom Huddlestone hasn't quite looked the same since suffering a season-ending ankle injury early last term. The powerfully built pussycat is one of Spurs' longest-serving players, having made over 150 appearances since joining from Derby County in 2006.
But Andre Villas-Boas made it clear early on that 'Thud' did not feature in his plans and the England international nearly joined Stoke on loan in August. Fulham are reported to have tabled a £5m for Huddlestone and, with Lewis Holtby now at Spurs, it's likely that the pass-master will be reunited with former boss Martin Jol at Craven Cottage. At least he may get to cut his hair sometime soon...
David Bentley
The 7-cap former England international has been less Bentley, more Robin Reliant since arriving at White Hart Lane from Blackburn Rovers for £15m in 2008. The cocky right-winger, once billed 'the next David Beckham', has been plagued by accusations of laziness, arrogance and a party-boy lifestyle in his four-and-a-half years at Spurs, although the 28-year-old has been unlucky with injuries.
After a loan at FC Rostov in Russia, the former Arsenal trainee is now back at Tottenham, for whom he has not featured since 2010. The club are desperate to find a taker for the greasy-haired, drink-driving, dead-ball specialist and some reports have suggested that lowly Reading or QPR may be willing to take a punt on 'Bents'.
Jermaine Jenas
Like Bentley, Jenas is a former England international who is now struggling to get anywhere near the Spurs under-21 side, let alone the first-team. Still only 29, Jenas has spent the last three months on loan at Championship outfit Nottingham Forest, where he started his career, but failed to make an impression at the City Ground and is now back at White Hart Lane.
A favourite scapegoat among Spurs fans, Jenas was unfortunate to pick up a major ankle injury three games into a loan spell at Aston Villa last season and the struggling Midlands outfit may be interested in a late deal for the ex-Newcastle man this month. Unsurprisingly, Harry Redknapp is also monitoring the situation, while Sunderland almost signed Jenas on loan on August deadline day.
Jake Livermore
The defensive midfielder made his breakthrough at White Hart Lane at the beginning of last season and quickly became a big favourite of former boss Harry Redknapp, who loves a player who's willing to 'run around a bit'.
After a decent start under new boss Andre Villas-Boas, the 23-year-old has stagnated, featuring in just 10 minutes of Premier League football since October. Even with Sandro ruled out for the season with a gammy knee, Livermore looks unlikely to gain significant game-time at Spurs and, surprise surprise, old 'Arry is now desperate to bring him to QPR before Thursday's deadline.
Andros Townsend
The speedy winger was surprising tipped to become one of the best players in the world by Andre Villas-Boas earlier in the season but his failure to make a weakened XI for Sunday's FA Cup defeat at Leeds suggests he is still someway off that feat.
The 21-year-old has been on loan at nearly every club in the Football League over the last few seasons but, unlike centre-half Steven Caulker, the strategy is yet to result in a first-team berth. With Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon to compete with and Spurs out of the domestic cups, Townsend's chances are unlikely to improve any time soon and the youngster looks set to be reunited with Harry Redknapp at QPR before Thursday's deadline.
