I've mentioned in another thread... putting it in here as a marker. I'm going with 6th to 8th. but leaning closer to 8th than 6th.

1. New manager unknown quantity in the PL
2. New formation and new defence ( although a signing like Laporte) would strengthen us.
3. Kane situation. He goes and we have to replace his goals.

I honestly dont/ can't see a top 4 challenge but I'd be pleasantly surprised if that transpired.

I will be happy with a spot in Europe. by league position or with a cup win.

but i feel without the distraction of any European competition, we should be looking at top 4. but i think this season we need to be realistic. we need to transform the team, and change the way we play.

but well.... lets aim for the stars, even if we don't get there, but we are still freaking up there.

COYS!

I think this is going to be a fascinating season for all of the reasons outlined so far. It's hard to predict what might happen but in my view it's almost certain that City will win again.

Here is a list of some things what I think will make things interesting:

1. We have no europe. This is massive - when Liverpool had the same a few years back they went from 8th to 4th the following season. With less games we can focus on and adapt to Ange's style of play, build confidence, stay fit, and hopefully challenge. I'm not saying we're going to finish top 4, but I think the lack of european football will have a big impact for us.

2. Our defence. Even if we do sign some top defenders they'll need time to become familiar with each other and I can still see us conceding a number of goals this season. I think this ultimately will be our downfall and will prevent us from really competing in the league.

3. Chelsea. Who knows what's going to show up - could be amazing, could be shit - i suspect somewhere in between and I can see them being direct competitors for us (ie pushing for european spots, not fighting for the title).

4. Villa. As has been highlighted they did exceptionally well once Gerrard was binned, and I think they may be a surprise package this season.

5. Newcastle and Arsenal. Who knows how they'll do, I don't know whether last season was a one off or if they'll both be competing again. Expectation and thus pressure will be high on both which may be to their detriment.

Overall - I think we'll do alright. Top 4 would be incredible but I think top 6 would be a good result considering this is a season of transition. A cup run would be nice though...

Arsenal will run City close and could win it... incremental improvements under Arteta like we were under Poch each season.

Chelsea will be in the 4th spot fight. Liverpool I don't know... have they run out of steam under Klopp like we did under Poch?

Villa will scrap for 6th/7th ( The Unai Emery factor)

That's how I see it panning out

Can we also have a thread called The Race For A&C's heart?

A touching love story of how A&C loses a buttock but uses that adversity to come to love Daniel Levy. And Donna Cullen. Simultaneously.

FWIW I'll be astonished if we're in the running for Top 4 this season, with or without Kane.

City are a shoe in and I think Liverpool will be back on form this season.

We were a looooong way off Arsenal last season and Chelsea now have a competent manager.

Plus United will continue to spend and I'm not sure our signings put us above Newcastle in terms of expectations.

Finishing above any of those teams would be a good achievement after the Mourinho/Conte doldrums.

The race for glory

To some that will be winning the league, to others winning a trophy, to some avoiding St Tottering and to some it'll be beating Citeh 2-0 at home with them having 30 shots on target and us managing only one.

As it stands, no chance of top 4.

get in a couple of CB’s sharpish and keep Kane, possibly.

our defence is miles off the pace no matter what style of attacking play is adopted.

"The race to the domestic treble" has a nice ring to it. Realistically it's "the race to fun football ", Sunday can't come quick enough!

You've got to consider that we were in contention for top four until late last season, despite being utter shite and playing well maybe once. Also, United finished top four despite being hammered multiple times and Newcastle had a pretty mediocre side. With a slightly better defence, a manager who wants to be here and a fanbase that has something to believe in again, I don't think top four is absurd. Actually the opposite: I think it's likely.

Newcastle/Arsenal haven't dealt with CL for a while, plus both have higher expectations. Liverpool haven't done all the business they need to do. Chelsea have five thousand players. United weren't that impressive last season and have added players that frustrate/will need time. City have conquered all worlds; what else is there to do? Then Villa/Brighton/Brentford are all exciting prospects but I still think we're better than them all.

We've got players that are better than they've been allowed to show and a manager that's got us excited again. We'll be great.

Liverpool, no idea.

We were a long was off Arsenal last season, but they were a ways off that the year before. They now have CL to deal with, and expectation.

Chelsea have a manager who was competent until 2017-18. And since then had a really poor season with us despite the CL final, and didn't really pull any trees at PSG. and has spent the best part of two years around that out of football. Chelsea are a basket case and I think just a complete unknown.

United and Newcastle are a bit meh.

I really think 4th is possible.
