I'm getting in early on this one - Tues 18th May is the 30th anniversary of our last F.A. Cup final victory.
.
30 years. 30 goddam years.
.
Gazza dragged us all the way to Wembley - and was fortunate not to be sent off for that crazy tackle on Gary Charles let alone the earlier chest high one on Garry Parker.
.
Stuart Pearce slammed in one of his special free-kicks bit in the second half a goal by Paul Stewart levelled it up and during extra time Des Walker beat Gary Mabbutt in the air but headed into his own net. Our eighth FA Cup win.
.
It used to be lucky when the year ends in one.

Our name must have been on the cup that year.

When Pearce took that free kick you see a Forest player barge Mabbutt to the ground leaving a gap.
Lineker wasn't offside. I expect the ref let Crossley stay on the pitch after pulling down Lineker because of the earlier Gazza hoo-hah. Then the penalty save... I thought we were done after that, Forest were still a great team back then.

Onside goal chalked off for offside, missed penalty, star player injured, should have been sent off, not sure how I handled that 1st half ? only thing I remembered out of those was Gazza’s injury off course, my fav ever player for us, I had Gazza shaved on my head as a kid, the hairdresser thought I was supporting the gaza strip ? Cheers for posting...

That always annoyed the f**k out of me but yes, it probably was because of the fact that Gazza should really have been red carded for that horrific - well it wasn't a tackle was it. I don't know if anyone can remember but Gazza was really hyped up in a pre match interview so that should probably have rung alarm bells with the benefit of hindsight.

Didn’t remember the disallowed goal from Lineker - absolute shocker of a decision!

Would our current crop have dealt with such adversity in a game of such magnitude - I doubt it!

Wasn’t it the only trophy Clough never won?

The club was basically dead for about 5 seasons after that and nearly went down until Klinnsmann finally turned up with about 1.5 games to go.

Lineker said that Gazza was kicking balls at the marching band before the match to try and knock their instruments out of their hands. He was totally hyper (more so than usual) that day.

Like I said in the memory lane thread, this was the perfect season for me. 11 years old, Gazza, Lineker, FA Cup win and 3rd place. I got my first pair of proper footy boots and signed up to the school team. Shoot magazine, league ladders, in the park every night after school playing 3 and in.

Little did I know what was to come.

I started supporting Spurs after the 1990 World Cup. Seeing 2 Spurs players star in the international tournament then follow up with the FA cup was so exciting.

I definitely peaked too early as a fan but the excitement of the FA Cup was very memorable.

I was living in Seville at the time. Watched the game at a female Irish friend’s flat. Her husband was a local. He got me into Real Betis. I got to know all his mates; crazy Betis fans! Went to plenty of games in their old stadium; wonderful crowd and community. I converted all his mates to Spurs fans for that day. The game was shown live on Spanish TV.

The flat was packed, folks sitting on the floor, everyone pissed up, looking at a small tv screen, but all Spurs fans for the day. They all loved Gazza, even clapped him when he was carried off. Crap game, but great memories.

If it wasn’t for that challenge, we would be talking about Gazza in the same company as Maradona, Messi, etc. Although he was still a great player afterwards he never reached the heights of that 91 season. What a talent!

The only game I got to in that cup run was the Oxford game at home, stood on the shelf, Gazza ran the show, great memories.

I remember it well, had just started following us the year before, so that was my first experience of a big cup game. I remember being so nervous watching it, and thinking everything seemed to be going wrong, from Gazza getting injured, to the missed pen etc But we turned it round, and that was the start of it all.

And now all these years later I just feel really sad seeing that, as back then I had passion and excitement for us, as I was only starting out as a fan. Now I don't have either of those things, the last few seasons have killed much of the love I had for us, which I know sounds very dramatic, but I can't remember ever felling so disillusioned with us, now I just wonder if I'll ever see us win anything again.

Really sliding doors moment for Gazza. If the ref has rightly sent him off for the Gary Parker challenge he would have felt it was the low point of his career but arguably it might have saved his career given what was to follow.

I think that it was domestically. He was the king of the league cups wasn't he.

Second low point after the second booking against Germany.

When I think that a lot of people reading this thread weren’t even born when it happened I feel very very old.
I feel like that every time I don't get ID requests for booze.
