The media have all acted like today would tell us what is going to happen. Seems nothing of the sort will take place according to this.

In the Times it mentions the 18th now ffs, as when they'll likely decide.

Seems there’s a government paper coming out this week and they are aiming to start up on 12 June. There is so much misinformation flying around thanks to the media.

I feel for everyone involved across the board to be honest, it must be an absolute shit show behind the scenes, it's bad enough what we see in the public but imagine what we don't see. The government can't even communicate to us properly and that's essentially one way communication.

Having a "conversation" involving clubs, government, FIFA, UEFA, The PL, PFA etc must be calamitous.

Much as there is nothing we can do ourselves to influence things, I haven't talked to anyone yet who thinks that the season should carry on. If I was a Liverpool fan now, I'd feel like the whole shine has been taken off the season even if they did win the title.

Don't think it is that bad really.
The organisations you are naming are professionally run, by very intelligent people, with a common goal.

The people that are deliberately trying to find any excuse they can to misunderstand communcations, well the opposite really

I don’t. It may be stressful but let’s face it, none of them are going to lose their home over this.

Exactly. I just can't for the life of me understand why anyone thinks restarting the league, even behind closed doors, is going to be anything but a shambles for that reason. It'll be an absolute miracle if they can get through all the remaining games without a single player, staff member, TV staff etc. Coming down with CV on which case anyone who was involved in a match with them would have to go into quaranteen again. It's just not in the least bit feasable

Precisely... Let's say, for example, we play Arsenal and 3 days later Dele has a case confirmed. That would mean our entire playing squad would have to go into isolation as would any Arsenal player that played in the same match.
You'd possibly also have to ask whoever you played in the previous match to do the same.
Instantly you've ruled two, if not three, clubs out of 14 days of fixtures.

I still think it's absolutely crazy that they're approving football starts in June.

The risk is still way too high no matter the testing.

All this stuff like they can't shake hands and celebrate just confirms it shouldn't restart anytime soon.

The elephant in the room is the physical contact and physical nature of the game which we hear very little on.

Yes we can't go on for months and expect all Clubs to survive but surely voiding this season and preparing the best we can for starting next season when the risk has come down over the next couple of months would be the safest approach.

The government should be supporting the less healthy Clubs in the interim.

Trying to finish this season is completely irresponsible and heaven forbid a player or family member dies as a result.

Not even just that. Look at how many times per match a player spits, not at another player obviously, but down onto the pitch.
Personally I find that gross anyway, but with an airborne virus in play as well???

This is an unbelievable stretch. I've got no opinion on the football bodies comms.

But the government have been poor on exit strategy. I'll admit it's quite a nuanced message they're attempting, but this is not how you communicate a nuanced message. This is a sketch of how you'd do it

2pm embargoed 50pp doc goes to press
7pm public address
7.15pm articles referring to 50pp doc go online along with the 50pp doc
9pm ministers go across the news programmes to explain and answer the message
10pm headlines written but you've controlled the message and got ahead of any deliberate misinformation

I thought that initially as well, but would they have to quarentine for 14 days, if the premier league had access to the testing, surely they would test all players and only those who tested positive would have to quarentine?

But symptoms can take 7-10 days to show, so could test negative initially then 4/5 days later be positive. If you're playing every 2 or 3 days (as is likely) then the player has potentially passed it on between the two tests.

From the new document today and as of 1st June:

  • Permitting cultural and sporting events to take place behind closed-doors for broadcast, while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact.

Thats what I thought, but then I read somewhere that the test can show up results even without the symtoms, as in if you are infected it will show up (normally infection will start 2-3 days after being in contact), but again there is so much misinformation about, so hard to know what is accurate.
