I know it seems a while away but one would hope that our transfer plans were already in the process of getting put together. I know its always difficult but a good Jan window could make a big difference with where we finish this season. Of course maybe Paratici has already drawn up a list of targets and in which case I'd hope we just employ a new head scout asap.

If you look at DoF, technical directors, whatever you want to call the position they come and go so frequently it seems. It's hard for me to get excited, I'd rather be excited by the set up and that foundations are in place for whoever to come in and do a decent job.

I really want to know who is working as our head scout at the moment. I get that Paratici is probably doing a lot behind the scenes but that was never his job. Feels all a little bit of a mess in this regard at the moment.

Tottenham hold talks with Johan Lange over director of football position
By Adam Leventhal
2m ago

Tottenham Hotspur have held exploratory talks with Johan Lange over their vacant director of football role.

The north London side have identified Lange as a potential successor for Fabio Paratici, who resigned in April following his ban from football.

Paratici resigned after being given a 30-month ban from “any football-related activity” by FIFA that, on appeal, was partially reduced. This was due to his involvement in a case regarding the alleged inflation of capital gains from player trading.

Lange’s departure has been discussed internally at Villa, although nothing has been agreed or formalised yet.

Any incoming director of football at Spurs will be expected to report to chief football officer Scott Munn, who began working in his new role last month after leaving his position as chief executive of City Football Group (CFG) China. He will take charge of all footballing departments, including the academy and the women’s team.

When compared with the Manchester City setup, the way that all the football departments will report to him makes Munn most like CFG’s chief operating officer Omar Berrada, with the director of football in the Txiki Begiristain role, responsible for player deals.

Lange, 43, is currently serving as global director of football development and international academies at Villa. He has been in this position since June this year following an internal restructuring process at the Premier League club which saw Monchi arrive as president of football operations.

Lange had previously been sporting director at Villa, having been appointed in 2020. He also held the position of technical director at Copenhagen from May 2014 to July 2020. He was tasked with improving recruitment and oversaw key signings, including the likes of Ollie Watkins, Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez.

Tottenham declined to comment when contacted by The Athletic.

Not really bothered who it is as long as he’s singing from the same hymn sheet on players, style and philosophies as big Ange and the rest of the club.

Villa's transfer business has generally been good for a while. Still seems a somewhat underwhelming appointment.

Is there are specific reason you think this other than he comes from Villa? I don’t know enough to have an opinion on DOF candidates generally but I don’t think we should be turning our noses up at getting someone from the tier below if they’ve done a good job moving that club forward

He was technical director before so has held a similar role previously. If it is to be him of course.

Someone who carries on as we have been the last few years please. Couldn't care less about anything else. I'd settle for a puppet who basically takes his marching orders from Big Pat if that's what's been working.

I am available for a suitable fee and a season ticket

So we already have Scott Munn as "chief football officer" and Rebecca Caplehorn as "director of football administration and governance", and we also need a "director of football"? I'm no doubt missing some nuance somewhere, but those seem like broadly similar job titles to me.

Does anybody know what Caplehorn actually does that isn't covered by the other two roles?

If the club's head coaches of recent years are anything to go by, hiring a 'famous name' DoF (or whatever the job title will be) will be no guarantee of success. Postecoglou wasn't the 'famous' or 'glamorous' coach some wanted, but we all love what he's done so far. Maybe a relatively unknown DoF will work in a similar way to AP.
