Well that was shit.
Too many changes - which is on Ange. Too many players who aren’t capable of playing the way he wants to. Too reliant on just a couple of players with no quality back up to them.
-striker is an issue.
-Lack of quality in CM depth is an issue.
-The drop off in quality from our two underperforming wingers to their back ups is an issue.
-only having two cbs in the squad comfortable with Anges tactics is an issue.

Unfortunately for us fans, top 5 is financially and for many other reasons more important than domestic cups.

I think Ange has lifted us as a club and got us enjoying watching again. However, as a club we have one of the worst performance cultures I’ve ever seen….both as a fan and professionally.
There will be a host of excuses trotted out by the club and some fans alike and that further serves to curtail any semblance of a performance culture.
I lay very little of this at Ange’s door… We don’t take cups seriously because Levy fundamentally does not financially suffer. I really think it’s that simple. Moreover, it is my guess (I stress the word guess!) that our managers are heavily incentivised on league places and CL and pretty much receive a paltry incentive for a cup win.
The setting of a culture starts from the top and until that changes, I think this will be par for the course in cups for the foreseeable.
On a separate note, why in earth you’d let the least technically capable player take a penalty is beyond me….

I thought the League cup was an achievable trophy this year. Without Europe we could have fully focussed on it.
I know it’s not the most prestigious of silverware but I’m actually gutted that it wasn’t taken seriously and we have already halved our trophy options.

Surely the best way to find out about your players is to drop them in to a strong coherent team so they have a chance to contribute positively. 3 changes max in a settled team will give the new players a better chance to impress. 11 players thrown together isn’t going to help anyone apart from the opposition.

Early days for Ange and he is just what we need right now but it’s just plain daft to put so many players out there tonight who might be gone in a couple of days (and in some cases should have been gone a couple of years ago).
He is not going to burn out his first 11 in August (normally hits xmas/new year) so what did he have to lose- it’s the intl break after Burnley anyway.
Sick of this self destruction in cup competitions.
