I think it was very obvious we weren't going to buy both Lo Celso and Bruno, and Lo Celso was reported as Poch's preference for a long time (not just in here for what it is worth).

You could be correct in that Mou wanted Dias, but no one is saying he wanted Rodon over him. When Rodon was bought, Dias was already off to City, I think? The Skriniar deal on the other hand felt very much possible, without knowing any details.

That's a very simplistic view of a complex market, and it would only be true for us if we had no other clubs to compete with. Not necessarily trying to defend Levy's transfer philosophy here, but not sure if you picked the best of examples.

I'm explaining that top players were there for the taking so you'd have to back Conte fully. But we haven't and wont for the next manager and never will.

The excuses used are something out of a Levy guidebook.....

Mate, there are probably 100 examples you could have made that I would have agreed with.

Questioning some of the examples you posted since they don't add up with how I've perceived it, what has been reported, and the timeline of things is not "excuses used out of a Levy guidebook." It is trying to have a discussion about what happened, and arguing against throwing shit against the wall just for the sake of it.

Edit: Sorry, I guess we are getting off-topic here.

Can we realise that some of the players mentioned that we missed out on didn't want to come , especially most of the CBs.
No fan of Levy, but to say offer more money and we would have got certain players is absolute bollocks

8m is a lot of money, especially when at that point no one knew when stadiums would be back open again.
Well the alternative was we spent £11mil on a player that Jose at the time, and no manager since has wanted. 11 million is a lot more than 8 million mate.

Bastoni and Zaniolo would have mate, and that's a fact.

I think people like shiny new stuff..... they've had poch so they know what they getting.

Pros for me:
1.Some exciting football and a clear identity of how we play.
2. Familiar with the club and has a love for spurs.
3. No bedding in period..I'd bring him in now already to see who he wants and doesn't want by seasons end.

Cons :
1.How he cast Alderweireld and Walker aside and we had to listen to the BS merchants tell us they weren't good enough any longer.
2.Him refusing to make substations in a game...running the same 14 players into the ground.
3. Not taking the League and Fa cup seriously.

But under all the trying circumstances of moving intonl a temporary home and the budget restrictions at the time.... I'm more inclined to give him the reigns than some new shiny play thing.
Another con was how long it took him to trust new players - it seemed to be months for them to get up to speed with his style of play.

Skriniar loves Inter and I doubt he would ever leave them to come here, but then you get similar alternative, not Rodon. We missed out on Willian and got Eriksen, that made sense. But going from Skriniar to Rodon is just stupid, very long shot gamble. It's like going from Mane to Sissoko.

why didnt we get Zaniolo in Jan then ? it ended in a perfect situation for him at Roma to have left and come to us if Conte wanted him
My guess is that the club decided buying a player who’d done both knees in the last two years, at great expense, for a manager that wouldn’t commit was too big a risk.

And who can blame them.

Other upsides to Amorim.

+ Walked into an absolute mess of a bloated squad with a mix average players and old players like Wendel, Vietto, Battaglia and Acuna. They had just lost Bruno Fernandes too who was basically Sporting's only reliable player. He sold all of these and wiped the slate clean.

+ Fully trusts youth players, he does not hesitate in putting them in as soon as he walks in the door.

+ Replacing from within. If Spurs were to lose Kane, Im certain he'd give Scarlett and Lankshear as much chances as possible.

+ Uses a fluid front three, so again, if we lost Kane he'd work around it quite well.

+ Has a fantastic relationship with his players and his younger players love him for giving them chances.

+ He always takes blame for defeats and takes any pressure from young players.

+ He is adaptable and resourceful so will always look for solutions in the squad without shoehorning players in.

+ His assistant coach - Carlos Fernandes - is superb on the training ground and is very refreshing in this respect. He's only 28 but has 10 years of coaching behind him.

+ He spent his first summer recalling players who had been loaned out like Palhinha and Reis.
Then raiding talents from smaller Portuguese clubs like Paulinho, Nuno Santos, Pedro Goncalves whilst promoting players like Inacio and Tiago Tomas.

All of these players became major players for them.

He fits what we are looking for by a lot of metrics and I can certainly see him fitting at the club.

He won't kick off if players are sold and if the club decide to buy a bunch of young talents that he didn't ask for, he would still use them and find use for them.

you’ve sold me, if levy doesn’t appoint — we burn him the stake!

This is part of the main issue at Spurs though is it not, Levy failing to shift players and we get the old need to shift players before we can strengthen line...

Appreciate the informative post on Amorim though he does sound promising.

Yep he's reluctance to accept defeat on a player and take a loss is detrimental.

Lloris, Sanchez, Dier, Lucas, Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Perisic, Tanganga, Rodon should not be there once season kicks off but we know majority will still be here.

You make a powerful case, but if he were to be appointed and fail there would be lots of posters on SC stating why it was obvious he would never be a success at Tottenham (whether the reasons are true or not);

+No Prem Experience
+Our Academy set up is not as good as Sporting's so his reliance on the youngsters was never going to work
+He has never managed big egos
+He wasn't backed
etc, etc, etc
