It's at the point where we need to send him to the reserves if he refuses to leave. He actively hurts us when he plays for us.

You can't punish someone for refusing to leave. No matter how bad he is, he's perfectly entitled to see out his contract, whether you like it or not.

Really sad to see so much hyperbole and vitriol in here tonight. He had a poor game, and it would be for the best if he moved clubs now, but some of the abuse in this thread is just pathetic.

He’s absolutely fucking woeful as the deepest midfielder. How multiple managers have failed to grasp this is totally incomprehensible to me.
I’m guessing that was his one and only attempt in that role for Nuno. We should be knocking on Evertons door and asking if they still have that 10m offer.

Thought he was fantastic tonight and really loved some of the changes to his game he’s showing. Quick-thinking, Progressive, courageous… just really encouraging signs from Winks.

Maybe if we all do this it’ll make other clubs think Winks doesn’t suck and he will finally leave.

He’s utter pants. He’s been told to move on. Leach on the club basically

Didn't you call Harry Kane a wanker for wanting to leave the club?

So players are wankers if they want to leave and leaches if they want to stay? Are they meant to just blindly do whatever the club wants them to do?

Also, Winks is clearly not utter pants. 99% of people who play football could only dream of reaching the level that Winks is at.

He's a player who has clearly lost his way and is no longer producing the required levels we need from him. I hope that we sell him, that he recovers his form, and that he has a successful career at a club that suits him.

I'm disappointed in how his time at Tottenham has panned out. I would have liked to see him develop more in his character and skills on the pitch. But i'm not going to abuse him for it. It's sad to see how many people here are willing to turn on our players and abuse them when they hit poor patches of form.

Some of the slagging off of Winks doesn't sit right with me. I know he's supposedly moaned to the press and such, and I'm not up for that at all, and it's not on, and I trust that he now understands that fact. But I also remember a very promising player that some said would be in the England team when he first broke through, and he was, and also remember watching him getting dumped into the technical area and ruining his ankle in an injury he's never clearly recovered from, and dealing with the frustration that that brings.

He's still one of our own to me, and I hope that he can recover the form that he showed when he first broke through and goes on to have a good career, even if that's not with us. I don't think I'll ever sit here and say some of the stuff that some do about him and other players who have come through our academy and been with the club since they were kids. We're all due mistakes in life, and at the end of the day it's important that you look out for those that are your family, more so now than ever, for better or for worse. If he wants to fight for his place until January, then let him. After that if it's not worked out, I'm sure both sides will agree it's time to part.

Patch?? Seriously? He’s been pony for a long time. He’s a snake in the dressing room also. He’s a club employee. He’s not doing his job to the required standard. Get rid. He’s a multi millionaire not some nice guy down the local bar who ducks your pint a Guinness up. He needs moving on. He will still be a professional footballer earning millions of pounds a year. Tottenham Hotspur are not a fucking charity to players who play for them. If you don’t cut the mustard then it’s time to leave. And don’t get me started on Kane ffs. Completely different circumstances. I’ve not called Kane a wanker for wanting to move to city. The way he has acted has brought that assumption. Let’s watch our team be shit again because we don’t want to upset winks and his family. Sitting in a mansion with a swimming pool and 4 cars outside worth more than my house each!! Fuck him. He’s not good enough. Sick of all the snowflakes on here crying about this shit. He’s shit. Get shot. Pc on here is getting a joke. Can’t call anybody anything but their name or it’s offensive?? Sick to death of it all. Grow a pair.
That’s not meant as a personal hit. I’ve had a few beers and I’m emotional. I mean no harm to winks. He obviously loves the club!? Maybe? But he loves his wages more because he’s been told to look for another club and he isn’t interested. So he’s basically staying for the money. Hence the leech comment.

Contracts work both ways in football. The club doesn't have to sell players if it doesn't want to, the players don't have to leave if they don't want to. Winks is perfectly within his rights to stay and fight for a place in the team if he wants to. It's certainly not worth abusing him over, given his long history with the club. I'm not going to ignore all of that history because of poor form and internet rumours. I'd like him to move on now, but i respect his right to have a say in the decision.

Even if you want to ignore that, it's still not a valid excuse to abuse and insult him. It's not PC, or being a snowflake, to point that out. It's just being respectful of the players that we're meant to be supporting.

Yes, footballers like Winks are extremely lucky to work in a profession where they will enjoy extreme amounts of wealth and privilege. But they are also just normal people, with all the usual frailties and problems, especially when it comes to mental health. The problems we have seen recently with Aaron Lennon should show us how vulnerable these young men can be. We should all consider that a bit more before abusing those players. Especially the ones we are meant to be supporting.

See!! Another pc post. Of course he can stay. It’s his contractual right to stay. I never said he can’t. But the guy is totally out of his league here now. He needs pushing out. Whether that’s right or wrong it’s the truth. It was a decision to renew his contract and he’s every right to see it out but he needs to know without doubt he’s not at a standard we need. That’s life. He should be told he won’t get any game time. And that’s it. Move on. Playing him tonight was pointless. He was turd but he got a game. He wants games. I just don’t get it.

I sense we’d honour a “gentleman’s agreement” with him so the release clause isn’t necessary ?

Maybe a gentleman’s agreement under which he agrees to leave the club if an amazing offer comes in. ;)

Always a bit mixed emotions about moving on senior players who have come through our Academy.
