Just don't buy this at all. City can shop where they like, so a punt on a player with one season behind him when they so desperately need a striker doesn't fit their MO. Having said that, their recruitment for a nation state with so much money is pretty scattergun and weird...

I don't think a player at Fiorentina is going to turn down a big money move to us if we agree a fee. If there is legit competition then he may choose a CL club over us.

It's different to Pau Torres who is already at a CL club.

The links to City are unsettling for sure but I still don't believe they would go big bucks, e.g. 80m euros for a player like Vlahovic.

They have to buy proven players at the level and expectations they're at. We have to be more speculative and risky in our moves and hope they pay off. City cannot.

You say that but Vlahovic follows their model. Not the finished article but a promising player. Bernardo, Dias, Laporte, even KDB.

They dont buy established world class players too often.

All the papers linking City to Vlahovic are the same ones saying Atletico had agreed a deal earlier this week and we had bid €70mil last week. If none of those were true it's sure as shit none of the City rumours are true either.

Stop getting baited by Nico Schira and rumour rags and wait for someone with some actual connections and journalistic integrity to report something. It may well happen, but you won't know about it from those papers.

Hhmm, I'd argue that all of those players were more established than Vlahovic, who's had 1 good season.

I feel it would be a big gamble in their position, particularly when they could be going for a player like Lauturo Martinez for not too much more.

True, but there's been so much hype around who their next number 9 will be. After being constantly linked to Kane and Haaland for over a year, to turn around and sign a 21 year old with one good season under his belt for £60 million... it doesn't really send out the right message.

Vlahovic could well turn out to be incredible - and I think he looks the best Kane replacement on the current market - but he doesn't yet strike me as a Man City level signing.

All the players you list were at least proven over a long period. Dias was Benfica's stalwart for a few years, KDB had been tearing it up in Germany, Bernardo was in the CL semi finals with Monaco. Laporte is perhaps the best example, but he still had 5 seasons in La Liga under his belt. Vlahovic isn't quite at that level yet

Same paper said the other day we had made an 80mil euro offer for both Vlahovic and Milenkovic and Fiorentina would almost certainly recognize they will not get the money they desire for Vlahovic and be likely to accept with some additional bonuses requested.

True or not, best wait for better sources.

Seems the difference between a Golden Boot/Player-maker award and a one season wonder is 20 million. If I was Kane I'd be fucking offended. :ROFLMAO:

This is the annoying thing about City isn't it (well, one of many) that they do go about flashing the cash with seemingly no regard for a "philosophy" or trying to build a young squad and improve them through coaching etc. It's just about who is the best player available at any given time... get them in, money's no object.

City are going to have a great shot at winning everything domestically without a true 9 this season regardless. They might not waltz it like last season, but they remain hugely competitive. It seems to me that adding somebody like Vlahovic improves their chances massively. They don't need a completely finished article - there's plenty of talent elsewhere in their squad - so Vlahovic would be a great option to bring in and nurture as the future of the club. It would have been far easier to achieve than Kane, that's for sure.

But like you say, they feel the need to snare the biggest fish in the pond. Just adds to their emptiness in my opinion.

Yep dont disagree. With Kane available, now Lewandowski (although I can actualy see why they wouldnt want to pay £100m for a 33 year old), Mbappe and Haaland next summer for free, it would be very odd to then take a gamble on Vlahovic.

Why do I have the feeling this is a sneaky stunt to get Atletico out of the picture so we can go for Vlahovic that would unlock Kane to City?
No?

I like that line of thought and wouldn't put it past anyone involved. Unless Vlahovic was in on it too it would mean us ending up with a disappointed player though!

So not seen anything new this morning and the main thing being reported by Di Marzio is that Atletico have agreement with the player BUT that their offer of 50m + 10m euros + 20% sell on clause, hasn't even been responded to by Fiorentina.

So actually all that has happened is that they've likely spoken to the player's agent and established that he would be happy to do the move, which is hardly earth shattering, but ultimately no fee has been agreed or even responded to!

As far as I can see Atletico are no further forward than we are and that 60m Euro offer, which is what, just over £50m? Isn't likely to be accepted.

That’s way too much detail, it must be BS

Just by twitter but it looks like Di Marzio has been really bad with his info in last couple months...
