This is always going to be the problem until we get back into the Champions League. Why would you choose us over Atletico? This has been a problem in the making for the last couple of years. We want these big name players, but I understand why they don’t want to play in whatever the Conference League is. I hope that we pull a rabbit out of the hat, but if we’re trying to sign players who CL teams also want, it’s gonna be tough.

You could probably throw a dart at any of the last 15 odd pages and we've all already discussed it to death. Atleti have an agreement with the player (which is important) but no agreement with Fiorintina (the part that matters).
That’s not what that tweet says. It states there’s an agreement in place for €60m plus add ons plus 20% of resale - that’s the transfer fee, not the agreement with the player.

To be honest though we've been told he'd be happy with us, and the fact that we haven't been ruled out gives me hope. Also believe we can outbid Atletico and offer better wages

That is merely what Atleti have offered. It hasn't been accepted. As has already been pointed out, the "agreement" is between Atleti and Vlahovic.

Are Atletico genuinely interested, or is this a Barca & Romero scenario again, designed to force our hand.

I think there are enough people saying it now that it's fairly obvious they are interested. They've also just hired an Italian sporting director (much like us) who is apparently a huge fan of Vlahovic. They also bid big for Martinez so they've evidently got money to spend on a striker.

They're basically in the same situation as us - they want a long term Suarez replacement, we want a long term Kane replacement. That's why we've been linked to a lot of the same players this window.

I'm sure they're also looking to take advantage of Madrid/Barca losing their best toys and most of their pocket money this year.

Well we need a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that Martinez is more like Suarez so they should go for him, and Vlahovic is more like Kane, so we should go for him. And neither treads on the others toes.:sneaky:
