right, we're supposed to believe that the rest of you dont think we are freaking awesome over here?

I am going to reiterate that the original post said that 90% of AMERICANS didn't know who she was. That was the point I was answering. As I've never lived anywhere else, I couldn't possibly speak to their populations. Carry on.

MJ is Michael Jordan. But Kobe and Serena- NO. I’m mostly interested in music and football. A limited interest in skiing. But generally no other sports.
To be honest, whether you like sport or not, to have not have heard of Kobe Bryant or Serena Williams makes me think you live in a cave.
Their fame far transcends their sports.

If Kobe wasn’t dead I’d probably only be able to tell you that he was a basketballer. No idea who he played for. Some people allow information like this to pass over them. It just doesn’t catch everyone’s interest. I’m the same with golf, snooker, darts, cricket and they get reported on in mainstream media in the UK.
Yup. And I’m Norwegian. Basketball has a very peripheral interest here in general. Skiing is the big thing here.

Maybe in US? What sports are we talking about?

By the way, have you heard about Matti Nykenen or Petter Northug?
