He is going to drag us kicking and screaming to success next season. I know I am drunk but that is not the reason for my belief.

Realistically (no TW yet so this can all change) I don't expect CL and think top 5 is the best we could get.

Liverpool and MC are so much better than us (i think only Kane and Son could make it into their match-day team, and might not even be an automatic starter) there is no comparison.

Chelsea is a good team and they recognize their biggest risk is lack of variation up-front (as shown against Arsenal final FA cup; only edge is Pulisic, and when he's out they dont' threaten, and Arsenal defence is shit). They are willing to take the money-risk to address it. They have an average defence, but not bad enough to melt. I also rate Lampard as a coach; he makes good subs and has coached his team enough to be able to execute those changes.

Man U: this team's main risk is Pogba. All that firepower will be nothing if Pogba doesn't play. If he does, then Man U's even better than Chelsea.

Arsenal: something big needs to happen to their backline otherwise I dont think they would even make it to EL

Leicester: similar to us. They have a better defence and midfield but we have better attackers overall. Our main competition for the 5th spot.

Wolves: very well coached especially in defence but I think they are over-achieving with what they've got.

My realistic hope for next season is " I hope these Deeney rumours are false " I have nothing against Deeney but at 32 years of age this has the smell of Saha and Nelson . Older players near the end of their careers rarely work at spurs .
That said I am in favour of Willian as he is class and you could see the folly of Lampard leaving Him out of the cup final as without him they lacked any guile . His type of guile is something we are crying out for but it seems he is going elsewhere its a shame really.
Or am I alone in thinking our midfielders are all much of a muchness if that makes sense and Willian will give us something we have not got now namely real quality .

I agree we are playing for fifth place.

People forget that from when Jose came in, if the season started there, I think I read we would’ve finished 3rd or 4th

If you think for a large chunk of that kane was injured, so was Son, we had no dm and injury after injury.

if he can plug some of these gaps we have, no reason why we won’t be pushing the top of the table. Obviously not Liverpool and City as they seem to be in their own mini league, but no reason why 3 or 4 can’t be achieved

might not be pretty, but his teams do score goals

A gradual improvement in our open play that negates the need to play counter attacking football every week.

Top 4 finish. We need UCL money to compete at the top more than a cup. For me the romance of the cups has died, is all about being in UCL and establishing yourself there

I wouldn't be surprised if we ending up winning the EL next year. Just a feeling.

A successful season for me would include:
  • Securing Champions League football for next season [either though league position or winning the Europa League]
  • Winning a domestic trophy

The signs point to a team that will, principally, be hard to beat. And that’s essential to a team basing their play on counterattacking football. I think Mourinho will make us a functional unit that, at its best, will be able to frustrate and beat the best teams. I’m not sure we’ll be capable of doing this week in week out, but I think we’ll become a well organised and dangerous team, one that will rely on Kane and Son’s lethality. I’m not expecting breathtaking, turbocharged football, I think we’ll be a frustrating side to watch but equally one that’s efficient at grinding out results. For some of us this’ll be difficult to watch and when the results don’t go our way I’d anticipate a lot of negativity but given our circumstances and Mourinho’s footballing principles, I think this is probably the right way to go

The point about Chelsea is Lampard stubbornness to change tactics when the game is not in his favour. He showed he can't change his tactics if he's under pressure and there's no one to take a rabbit from a hat.

Like a couple of others have said, our performance in the transfer window will significantly affect the expectation for next season.

But based on the noises coming out the club, I am not expecting us to match any of the top 4 in the transfer window so I just dont see it realistic to expect us to gain any ground on them.
We are not miles away, a few players in key areas I feel would make a massive difference but does anyone really have faith in Levy & co to deliver whats needed?
A shrewd net spend of 40-50m could easily be the difference in keeping Kane beyond next season and not.

So with the expectation of a fairly meh window, I see us battling out with Wolves & Leicester for 6-7th

I think the most realistic route back into the UCL will be the europa league in all honesty. Top 4 is going to be tough considering the money Utd and Chelsea will spend and with City & Pool basically being shoe ins.

Mourinho has already won it twice and will actually take it seriously as opposed to Poch. Would obviously love a top 4 finish too though!
Money can bring as much distruption as success - my aims - top 4 and a decent run in the Europa league.

Also wouldn’t be too sure about top two being wrapped up. Both are up for grabs, wouldn’t be surprised to see one of them fall off the pace and end the season 3rd or 4th.

I think we’ll challenge for the league, don’t see Jose coming here to finish 4th. I don’t think we’ll have enough to win it but I do think we’ll be top 3 comfortable.

I also think Jose’ gonna have some fun with winding lampard and ole up.

Top 4 is an absolute must. We need to establish ourselves as a regular CL team to attract the best players so we need to make sure dropping out of it was a one of rather than us reverting back to our old selves IMO

Would be good to get to the latter rounds of Europa as well but not at the expense of a top 4 finish.

The FA cup I'd like to see us go for if we drop out of Europa early

League cup I've never given two shots about really. Don't see why it even exists in the first place. Give the kids a chance IMO.

CL doesn't attract best players ... We bought sissoko when we were in ucl :)
