Having a clear strategic plan regarding when and which subs to use will also be so important. Let's hope JM figures that out

He's been in the game for 20 odd years now so I'm optimistic he can get a handle on it.

Interesting - I don't think that our situation is vastly different than pre-season lockdown. I think that Mourinho knew enough about the way that Daniel Levy operates to realise that there would only be a limited budget. Ok, the constraints are more obvious now but many clubs will also be operating under severe constraints.

Such a biased take from that journalist who has had a hard on for giving Mourinho a hard time since he's joined. Gave up a third though when I attempted to read it earlier. He is always trying to undermine him. He's started nice and early before the season starts again.

He's a bit snarky to begin with, but it's actually hard to argue with most of his points. Mourinho does have a lot to prove, we do have a talented but imbalanced squad, and it will be enlightening to see where he takes us.

He's not saying Mourinho is shit and is doomed to fail, he's simply saying that how he does at Spurs will be the real measure of his managerial ability at this late stage of his career. As he says in the article:

Spurs’ situation isn’t completely hopeless. In fact, it’s an oddly perfect context for Mourinho to prove himself: they’re talented enough not to require a miracle, but – at the same time – have been neglected to the extent that they need far more than just a fresh face in the technical area. They’re a substantial project requiring imaginative solutions.

Does he have what it takes to turn us around and mold us into an efficient, ruthless Mourinho team of old, or is he genuinely a bit past it? This is a question we've been debating on SC since the day Mourinho took over, so it's hardly slanderous for a journo to bring it up.

The thing is, I think we would have had a significant transfer spend before this hit. Our net spend in the last couple of windows was huge, and we had the revenue with the new stadium to finance it as well as plenty of wage wriggle room. I don't think Mourinho took the job expecting such constraints

to the contrary, use of subs isn't like some scientific formula like your suggestion implies. It needs to be a fluid and dynamic plan as to when and who is brought on/off.

Yeah, its like some of the people on here have an emotional attachment to the club and will support the players/manager/club no matter what.
It's fucking weird.
