Exactly. Our issue last season was a lack of depth in quality... If we have to sell to buy, that doesn't solve the depth issue imo
Having to sell one player to buy a player that wasn’t a target isn’t about depth, it’s about opportunity.
The post you quoted had the assumption we’ve signed three midfielders (including Clarke) to handle the lack of depth.

A proper pre-season?
The only concrete targets we've been linked with are all still away/ injured. I would agree if our targets were training with their current clubs now but Sessegnon was away with the U21s this summer, got injured and has only just come back. Dybala and Lo Celso were both away with Argentina for the Copa America and still haven't returned to training as they're on their summer breaks.
I don't see why we had to sign these players ages ago. We would have just been paying their wages for a month for no reason. Say Dybala/ Lo Celso were on 100k a week, signing them 5 weeks ago would have cost us £1m+Sessegnons' wages for no benefit

Exactly. And everyone that's now panicking knows this having read similar posts for the past few weeks. The one massive signing that we actually had to do asap, to make sure we weren't at risk to any last minute transfer changes by 'bigger' clubs, we did. The on going ones have been there to be finalised for a while now (as often repeated by itk) and everyone knows it - you only have to look to the newspapers to see that their silence on those two particular transfers speaks volumes as absolutely nobody is even bothering to link them with any other club, not even their own clubs are leaking names of potential buyers to try and bump the prices up. Should we wish to purchase Sess and GLC,we will, and at a price that favours us more than the selling club.

I understand everyone’s frustration, the early flurry of ITK and a couple of signings did make it look like we were finally pushing to get our business done early for a change and the all important pre-season under the newcomers belts.

Strap yourselves in guys and girls, it’s gonna be a torturous couple of weeks, we should be used to it by now! I’m expecting a different outcome this time though, keep the faith!

I think a lot of people are annoyed that it’s dragging to the last week of the window ( again ). I was naively hoping that we’d finally do things differently and give these new signings a proper pre season like Poch wants.
There was no way Lo Celso was ever going to get a pre season even if we'd bought him on day one of the window because he was playing in the Copa America and there's no way we'd have had Sessignon for pre season once he was injured so the upshot is that Poch couldn't have had it whether he wanted it or not, it has nothing to do with whether or not we'd bought them by now.
I know it's easy to get side tracked and be disappointed that we haven't completed yet and then develop different scenaros forgetting the innitial facts but not having signed him yet has changed nothing.

Have to feel that ITK is positive, we are still in for GLC & Sess (x2) and have a potential Eriksen replacement lined, up should he leave. Based on previous ITK that deals were close and medicals lined up, makes me think we are just waiting on departures (Rose, Wanyama likely) before finalising the deals.
It's not a time to panic.. if the window closed tomorrow I wouldn't be too downbeat because we've strengthened massively our problem area with N'Dombele

It's not one player though, we're only talking about Eriksen for sale, but pretty sure Wanyama is listed too... Wanyama out, NDombele in, Eriksen out, Lo Celso in, Rose out, Sess in, etc. That's not adding depth that's replacing what we have with potential improvements. I still feel we may have an issue of options off the bench in certain positions, especially wingbacks

Just keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't go the way of no more signings and Eriksen out last minute.

You’ve totally missed the one player we’d supposedly have to sell Eriksen to buy though.
The rest have been said many times that we don’t need to sell to buy those targets, so how it’s not adding depth (especially even just replacing an ailing Wanyama as you mentioned) is beyond me.

He has said loads of good bits but people ignore them bits as per and freak out

There does seem to be conflicting info when it comes to Lo Celso, Hercules info indicates its just a matter of paperwork, whereas today's info suggests agreeing on a price remains the issue. So all in all we just gotta sit back and hope for the best

Why even mention that? Such a negative outlook. Personally I feel we will sign at least our two primary targets and maybe even more. If CE does go or even Toby then we’ll have to see where we go.

I agree but the other info from the other itks is conflicting between themselves but Trix and Herc are both on same lines I guess it all depends where it comes from but people always believe the worst ?

All I will say, is i expect GLC & Sess to be done finally, and before TW closes. Reasons, I certainly will not go into. Upto you gentlemen and gentlewoman, to decide if you have decided to have panic attacks, or sleepless nights.

I tend to think of it as realistic rather than negative. One signing in 18 months isn't exactly encouraging for a team that barely scrapped CL qualification last year. I hope we make a couple of good signings too but it all just feels a bit too familiar to feel comfortable at the moment.

So right now it’s looking just like GLC and Sess in the door. ITK on the U21 being targeted has went quiet. Pity as I feel we need a bit more than GLC and Sess.

Literally nothing is indicating we’ve run out of money.
Just that we don’t have another £170m or so to splash on players without any more outgoing.

Which is obvious. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn’t been paying attention.

Edmonton’s info is probably correct. Close likely means deal agreed, medical arranged. Lo celso is on holiday, sessegnon is injured. We aren’t going to push either until the last week. We have a chairman who puts the brink into brinkmanship. If a deal isn’t done now, it won’t be till the last week. Trouble is, other windows shut later. That’s now a problem for him.

With no outgoings of first team quality and that's a fine window. Unfortunately, it sounds like more than a few players may still leave.
