Would like to see McKennie join personally. Strong physical presence who has a lot of ability on the ball. Would be a good replacement for Sissoko, considering we won’t have Sarr until next year.

The assumption was we were adding a CM as soon as Sissoko went. Expected it to be Moriba based on the media noises Thursday/Friday, but that has gone quiet. McKennie would be a decent option. Our midfield plan appears more combative rather than creative, but then will the possible addition of Emerson at RB and Traore at RWF add the attacking intent. The Liverpool blueprint.

Not sure he’s what we need really.

McKennie isn’t a playmaker obviously but he brings far greater balance in terms of ball progression alongside one of Hojbjerg Skipp, than having both start.

It’s clear we’re not signing a creative CM without shifting Ndombele, and that’s understandable imo.

We will need to rehabilitate Tanguy (again) enough that buyers are willing to take a punt. We can’t afford to have him sit around as a £200k p/w Danny Rose for 4 years.

In doing so he might just help us challenge for top 4. It’s not ideal but I don’t think it’s as desperate a situation as some are making out, so I totally get why we’re going for McKennie. Really good player, with huge potential.

Injury to Skipp or PEH and things get hard. Not sure Dele is the answer at CM, McKennie adds strength, competition and is quality.
Is it just an injury fetish you have or are you just not keen on PEH and Skipp? Or maybe you just get hard at the slightest things …

I see shaping up as Hojbjerg/Skipp for the holding midfielder (6), Lo Celso/McKennie for the slightly more progressive but hardworking (6/8), then Alli, and if we can get his head straight, Ndombele for the more attacking CM (8/10).

You missed Harry Wanks … I see him as the bottle holding (17) on the bench. Do we need cover for him when he’s injured?

With potential that Gil can do the Ndombele role if he doesn’t pull finger.

I don’t get the thinking that we now need to replace Sissoko. Skipp returning effectively did that.

We have 6 CMs - Skipp, Højbjerg, Dele, Lo Celso, Winks, & Ndombele - competing for 3 places.

If we offload Winks or Ndombele then we need another CM, preferably a creative passer.

The RCM and LCM in our side have been protecting the full backs, allowing our front 3 to stay high and narrow.

If any of the 3 get injured can we expect Lo Celso or Winks to do the job?

I think this is why we are looking at bringing in a CM that has good defensive/workrate qualities.
