Here we are then! Don’t know about anyone else, but I feel optimistic about this season.

It’s going to take us a few weeks to bed in the new signings and have players returning from injury so I’d imagine we won’t really start purring for a few games.

I think we’ll probably have to graft for today’s points- I’d imagine Villa will be setting up to catch us on the counter so there won’t be much room at the back. Anyway, it’s great that the season’s back and I hope Ndombele gets a chunk of game time today

Has to be this team based on pre-season and player sharpness. Ndombele might not start though as he hasn’t looked as fit as other CMs and Poch made a point of congratulating him for getting an hour under his belt last week.

If we want him fit to play 90 minutes Vs City, then 70 or 80 minutes here will be great for him. Think he should play.

Depends if Poch thinks he’s an injury risk if he is not fit enough ... sometimes he prefers players to get fitness on the training pitch (running!). I agree he’s better off getting 70 mins today and improving fitness that way though.

Agree with that. If Ndombele runs out of gas Skipp deserves a run out with Winks moving forward. Hope to God we don't pick up injuries.

Absolutely buzzing to get back down to the Lane today. Villa have done some good business this summer, but have a lot of new players to integrate. We will be able to field a settled squad who have finally had a summer off.
