I made a quick compilation of his 1st half. I'll make his 2nd half tomorrow.

That was a decent showing but the difference between that and the player we see this season is amazing. He looks smaller and leaner this year and he didn't look a 100% balanced in that video. His footing wasn't always certain and his speed of mind nowhere near what it is this year.

That's not a slant on his performance in that video but a compliment for the player we are seeing more regularly this season. He has all the traits to far eclipse Dembele if he can find the application and get the consistency. Probably the best at 1vs1's since we had Dembele and definitely a better more creative passer.

What's impressed me with him is that his ambling body language seem to have changed, no more head down when he needs to defend and jogging back, he is, sprinting back trying to win he ball, to me that is down to mentality, obviously he had to get fitter but now it looks like he 100% wants to fight for the ball.

I think us being an exciting team to watch relies on him cementing the 8 in a 2 man midfield with Hojbjerg and dominating games. When he's good we look a totally different team. I feel bad saying it but we need to minimalise Winks and Sissoko's involvement if we want the kind of football we're craving. Winks is a good squad player and fine in the Europa and cups but we need more in the league.

The other thing Ndombele cementing a spot in the middle dues is that it massively improves our squad balance, as suddenly our CM depth is Højbjerg and Ndombele to start, but all of Winks, Sissoko and Lo Celso who could feasibly come in for any of them on an ad job basis off the bench. Yes, all of these would technically weaken our midfield, but we’re not really in a position to have to first choice level players in every position.

What would make this perfect is if Mourinho ends up trusting the Ndombele-Højbjerg axis with only two centre backs behind it. If we get to that point, I think we’ll start looking very good, 16/17 season levels of good.

To do that you'd need someone like Lo Celso that has a bit of bite playing in the centre of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 so we have some extra fight in the team. No reason why that couldn't work really well with what we have. We're not far off in points or squad to be competing. If lucas and Bergwijn find some form to support Son and Kane and we get Lo Celso fit we could have a really exciting run in. On the flip side we could completely go the other way.

Really is amazing how one position change can lead to such a better balance, as a few of us have mentioned, the tactical tweaks only needed to be subtle. Let's hope Lo Celso can make the 3rd spot his and work better further forward, the negative side of my mind worries we bought 2 players for the same role, which is good for depth but when you're lacking the 3rd man of the midfield 3 it's a concern, I hope they can play in the same team. The positive side of my mind thinks each player will vastly improve playing with somebody who has a similar level of passing technique to play those quick passes.

His bad performances last season were few and far between. There, I said it.

When you say 'performances' well let's be honest there weren't many standouts, he was showing moments in some matches which masked a lot of the bad displays but that's as good as you were gonna get from him. There weren't many complete performances where he lasted 90 mins, maybe Norwich away last season but apart from that he was largely abject.

The answer to this question is no - there is absolutely no point in pressing this man. Try and he'll even make guys like Kante look like Mark Noble, left in the dust.

The pass at 1:52.... makes that look way too easy. Weaves it with the outside of his foot through 3+ defenders and hits Serge perfectly in stride to set up a dangerous crossing situation. Less than a handful of players in the EPL today capable of executing that pass with that level of precision. Maybe De Bruyne, Thiago, Pogba... and that's about it imo.

Been said a million times but I'm just thinking of having him and peak Dembele at the base of our midfield, would be quite something wouldn't it?

I honestly think Spurs would sell out the Lane if they gave Dembele a testimonial and played those two in a double pivot.

This is great. He is super important to us in breaking lines. Now he is getting fitter, playing him as an 8 instead of as a 10 will be key.

Though I would say that the pressing from Anguissa et al in the Fulham did work well at times. So he’s not immune to effective pressing.

I think we did see against Sheffield that they stood off him. I guess the calculus was it’s better not to press him, have him skin someone in the cente and then be a man down having to rotate.

It's Tanguys's ball, he just likes to lend it from time to time.

I think we have some good combinations in there. I would still expect to see Hojbjerg and Sissoko with Ndombele in front against the top teams. Hopefully Jose is encouraged now to play Hojbjerg alongside Ndombele in a fair number of games though especially at home. We have a few good options for attacking midfield so can add another attacking player in there if Ndombele plays deeper. Lo Celso being the obvious choice when fit but I actually would like to see Bale there at times. At least it shifts the balance between central attacking midfielders and central midfielders a bit more.
