Brentford already tried to get Johnson but had their bid rejected. There must be something in the data (as they are so heavily data led and we are turning to that too). I'm not personally sure about him myself but there must be something

I think he'd be a good signing for us. He's not a 'wonder kid' but at only 22 he has plenty of scope to improve and has been doing a reasonable job in an average side. Also with Son seemingly having lost some of his top end pace we desperately lack someone in our attack with blistering pace to go past players which he has in spades.

This is like reading the Deki chat before he signed all over again. People love a player tearing up a weaker league (Orban) but performing well in a poor footballing side means your ‘average’.

Stop making assessments based on the style of football a player is forced to play and look at how they perform in moments that will translate to our set up. Johnson is excellent in tight spaces, can beat men both ways, is composed on the ball and works hard off it. Everything Ange wants in a winger.

Our interest goes back two years. Involves couple our players, and at least one player. Ange rates him, but I don’t.
Personally I agree with you but key to me is if Ange wants him. Glad to hear he does and I’m fully onboard with getting this man what he wants.

Yep. I’m not 100% sold on Johnson, but I am 100% sold on Ange. So if he wants him, go for it.

We need to shift players and increase our HG content. If we can shift 2 players it seems a good deal all round. Opinions are mixed but we need to go with the manager on this one if he feels he can get the best out of Johnson.
Still need direct competition for Richarlison and i hope Orban is still on the radar if we can get a good deal.

I agree with this take. Definitely don't want to pay 50 mil but if it can be done for 30 mil plus some or one of our deadwood, I'm all for it.

Rather pay 30 mil for him over orban, as Johnson is at least proven in the prem to an extent, even with a very rubbish Forest team. At 22 he's got plenty potential to be tapped into by the right manager.

Personally feel Ange is the man for bringing out the best in Johnson. He has the raw ingredients to be a top winger or CF. We are lacking some serious pace in our team and I for one think he can genuinely displace Kulusevski or Richarlison. Can't underestimate how important pace is in the right system.

P.s he is a fancy foreign player from Wales 👀.

It took a while but I was glad someone mentioned that, it’s why I put it in! 😂😂😂😂

Think we all need to get past the first 11 argument with Ange. It’s the sum of all parts, not the individuals that matter.

To have a squad full of different players results in tactical flexibility, and means that opposition teams will be unsure of how we will be playing when they have their week’s preparation to go against us.

To be able to rotate full backs, play GLC, rotate Sarr with Skipp and bring Bentancur back into the fold added to the excellent Biss and Maddison, great depth.

To have 3 positions up top with choices from Son, Deki, Richy, Solomon, Perisic and maybe Johnson results in great squad depth and very different abilities with each player.

Take Perisic as a perfect example, came on against United, defended from the front brilliantly and is a very experienced a tactically intelligent footballer. These players are needed, different profiles are needed.

If we were to bring in Johnson then personally think we are just slightly short at CB. Schuurs would be a very shrewd signing IMO.

Your analogy holds water time and again when we analyse what players have left relegated clubs for elite Premier clubs and strengthened them no end.
Take for example this season has seen Maddison pulling up trees at Spurs since leaving Southampton and two midfielders from the same club have been swept up by big spending Chelsea.
This scenario is repelated each season, pulling top players out of relegated clubs.

I swear I have been watching a different player to some of the comments in here......

Unless I need my eyes testing, of course

Pretty much this so long as it doesn't then transpire as the same level of "Conte happy with compromise of Spence" .

Can funds be better utilised? Perhaps, but people need to realise it's 2023 and HG players carry a premium.

End of the day, Johnson's skill-set is something we desperately need even if the preference for me would be Williams but if this has been a long standing scouting job and we can also offload unwanted personnel at the same time then I think this is a deal that can work favourably for all parties.
